Saying "no" can be hard at times. It is okay to say no, it is okay to have limits and create boundaries. You don't owe anyone an explanation.

How often do we say or hear, I’m fine when we know that’s not the truth. It is so important to follow up and let that person know you’re here even if it’s just to sit with them. Let them know you care and remind them that they matter to you.

According to the National Science Foundation we have between 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts per day. Of those thoughts, 80% are negative and 95% are exactly the same repetitive thoughts as the day before. What thoughts are looping through your mind each day? By increasing mindfulness and awareness we can become better able to check ourselves. Are these thoughts actually helping me achieve anything? How can I let this thought go? Recognize and acknowledge the thought. Can you do anything about it? Is this something you have any control over? If so, perhaps action is needed. If not, time to let it go.

do you have a friend or loved one struggling with symptoms of depression? If so, it can be difficult to find the right words or know what to say. Just as important to consider is what to avoid saying. I found this to be a helpful article: https://www.helpguide.org//helping-someone-with-depression Things you can say: "You are not alone in this. I’m here for you.... You may not believe it now, but the way you’re feeling will change. I may not be able to understand exactly how you feel, but I care about you and want to help. When you want to give up, tell yourself you will hold on for just one more day, hour, minutewhatever you can manage. You are important to me. Your life is important to me. Tell me what I can do now to help you." Things to AVOID: "Just snap out of it. What’s wrong with you? Shouldn’t you be better by now?" Feel free to share additional ideas.

How many times have we heard "get over it...it's all in your head." This saying can feel dismissive and invalidating of mental health symptoms and can lead a person to question "am i just making it up?" or "am I going crazy?" Brain scans have shown that these mental health symptoms really are in the head- in the BRAIN. Brain scans illustrate the differences in individuals without a mental health diagnosis. Scans have also shown the positive impact that therapeutic technique...s such as CBT and EMDR can have on treating mental health. #mentalhealthmatters See more
