Find the JOYS in your LIFE! What does that mean? I always dreamt of owning a shop where people would feel welcome, inspired, and would walk away feeling JOYful. Over the years, many of our customers have heard about or have gotten to meet my Grandma Joyce. Grandma Joyce was very special, because she saw the good in everyone and everything. She was grateful for what she had, and she loved her family & friends dearly.... Today is a day of remembrance of my Grandma Joyce. She passed away this week. One of my favorite moments in my life is driving Grandma down Main Street and telling her I was going to name my shop after her. It was my way of showing her how much I loved and admired her. My Grandma was the most welcoming and caring person you could ever meet. This picture, which has greeted all of you in our entryway since the day I opened is one of my favorite pictures of her, as she is the same age I was when I opened JOYS. In the early years of JOYS, her car was often parked right outside. She would bring me a Diet Coke & a snack every single day. She even hung out during big festivals and chatted with customers. When she was shopping, she would look at each item in the store carefully, as she always put thought into the gifts she gave. Each of these little moments are some of the best memories that have been made inside our store. These little JOYS are really what life is all about. Today, my wish for anyone reading this is to have a relationship with someone like the one I had with my Grandma, because it truly is the greatest JOY I have had in my life. On August 6, 2019, Grandma Joyce found her biggest JOY in heaven. She may not physically be here on earth with us anymore, but her heart lives on in her children, grandchildren, & great-grandchildren. So what does Find the JOYS in your LIFE mean? It means celebrating those little moments every day, no matter how small. The pursuit of JOY is everything in life.
