Turn Around, Don’t Drown! At 7:25 AM this morning, Station 6 and the Water Rescue Division responded to the 1000 Block of NE 23 Highway for a water rescue. The driver of a vehicle went around barricades closing the highway due to floodwaters and made it 150-200 yards into the water before the vehicle became disabled. Crews deployed a boat and removed the person from the floodwater.

Nine of the District’s Junior Firefighters participated in a Junior Firefighter Academy today. With the District’s Training and Safety Division, and with assistance from the Warrensburg Fire Department, the Juniors trained on SCBA confidence, firefighter survival, hose line management, search operations, and simulated structure fire attack. Junior Firefighters are District members between the ages of 14-17 who may begin training and response to emergencies in support roles to begin their education and gain experience in the fire service. Know someone who’d be perfect for the program? Visit www.jcfpd.net/volunteer.

The Johnson County Fire Protection District was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire at 3:25 AM on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 in the 600 block of NW 521 Road. At the time of dispatch, the residence was reported to possibly be occupied. Johnson County Sheriff’s Office personnel were the first to arrive and attempted to locate any occupants from the exterior but were unable to do so due to the fire involvement inside the residence. As Fire District personnel arrive...d and began fire attack and a primary search, the resident of the home was located inside of the structure deceased. The deceased victim was identified as Cory R. Vogler, 48, of Warrensburg, who was pronounced at the scene by Johnson County Coroner Clark Holdren. The fire was brought under control at 4:25 AM. District Stations 5, 7 and 10 responded and were assisted at the scene by the Johnson County Volunteer Fire Auxiliary, Johnson County Ambulance District and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. The Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office and Johnson County Fire Investigation Unit responded and conducted an origin and cause fire investigation. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental. No working smoke alarms were located inside the residence.
As winter weather continues, please be aware of our marking system for vehicles along roadways that appear to have wrecked. If you see a vehicle marked with yellow caution tape the vehicle has already been checked by emergency personnel. This means, typically, you don't need to report the vehicle to 911 dispatch. However, if something else would indicate the need for a response please report it. Safe driving! (Photo credit CNN.com)
It doesn’t take much for a controlled burn to become an uncontrolled burn. Crews have already been to two fires this morning. Please, do not burn until conditions improve.
Congratulations to Firefighter Wyatt Floyd (Station 1/Warrensburg) for completing JCFPD's Recruit Training Program! We look forward to your continued service!

Happy Red Friday. Go Chiefs!
Things haven’t changed since Friday. DO NOT BURN!
We aren’t just asking, we are BEGGING you not to burn until conditions improve. It is too dry with humidity too low. Our crews have been running hard the last few days to outdoor fires that quickly got out of control. Please, DO NOT BURN.
At 1:07 PM today, JCFPD Stations 1 and 6 were dispatched to a rollover vehicle accident in the 200 block of NE V Highway. Personnel arrived and located a dump truck overturned in a deep ditch along the highway with one occupant trapped inside the vehicle. The Warrensburg Fire Department was requested to assist during extrication efforts to provide additional equipment. Due to the complexity of the extrication, it took approximately 3 hours to safely remove the occupant from the dump truck and transfer them into the care of a medical helicopter.
Top vegetation is dry and the wind is howling. Please don’t burn!

Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief. We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children. President George W. Bush
JCFPD and the Warrensburg Fire Department conducted a joint training this morning on ladder truck operations and water supply operations to support ladder truck operations.
