Daylight Saving Time begins 2am Sunday March 14th. It’s also time to change the batteries in your smoke alarms and check the dates. If more than ten years old it’s time to replace them too. Smoke alarms save lives, but only if they work!

Some high winds today...also possibility of severe storms this evening. Stay weather aware!

Johnson County Fire Protection District #2 01.04.2021

Mild and breezy conditions will prevail for the first half of the work week with highs in the lower 70s and south-southwest winds gusting 25 to 35 mph each day.... These warm and breezy conditions will again lead to very high fire danger today...burning should be avoided. The next chance for storms will arrive in the area on Wednesday night. A few of these storms could be strong however, widespread severe weather is not expected. Heavy rain could also be possible with these storms leading to localized flash flooding.

SEVERE WEATHER STATEMENT VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER SUNDAY... Very high fire danger is expected on Sunday across all of eastern Kansas and western Missouri, extending to northern and central Missouri.... Shortly after sunrise on Sunday morning, likely in the 9 am to 11 am timeframe, winds from the southwest will increase to around 20 to 30 mph, with occasionally higher gusts. Relative humidity values will drop to around 20 percent by mid to late morning on Sunday and will persist at that level until sunset. Winds will decrease around sunset. Outdoor burning or any behavior that may inadvertently spark a fire on Sunday is strongly discouraged.

SEVERE WEATHER PREPAREDNESS WEEK According to the National Weather Service, typically, flooding results in more weather related fatalities than any other thunderstorm related hazard. Why? Because many of the deaths occur in automobiles when driven through flooded roads as they are swept downstream. Of these drownings, many are preventable, but too many people continue to drive across a flooded road.

SEVERE WEATHER PREPAREDNESS WEEK DID YOU KNOW? Tornado sirens are NOT meant to be heard indoors. Learn more about tornado sirens.....

Johnson County Fire Protection District #2 12.02.2021

Remember yesterday, when we said it's important to get to the lowest floor of your building if a tornado is approaching? Here's a photo to go along with that statement. Notice the top floor is almost completely gone.

We know the weather has been awesome...everyone wants to get out of the house and maybe do some yard work...rake leaves...burn brush, clear fields...etc. Even though not been really windy it is extremely dry and the grass fires in our district have been wild and out of control in the last two days. The calls for help keep pouring in and overwhelming to the firefighters that are available during the day (which are few) and they are giving it their all to keep you safe. If you have to burn make sure it is something you know you can control. We know sometimes it just gets out of control - just please be careful and mindful of your situation and of course if you need help - absolutely call 911. Thank you and stay safe!

Here's the latest on our weather for New Years...we are expecting an ice storm (I know you're shocked, after all, this is Missouri). They say it's a little too... early to tell, but they are currently expecting 0.10" to 0.25" beginning at about 9pm tomorrow night (prime party start time). Please be safe and definitely, don't drink and/or do drugs and drive, either way, you're still impaired. Make good choices. You know, use one of the numbers below, have a plan for a designated driver, stay where you are, have a friend come get you...or **gasp** stay home and ring in the new year. Here are some numbers you can put in your phone: Airmen Against Drunk Driving (need a military ID) 660-687-7433 ETS taxi- 660-358-1733 Uber-download the app to your phone On a side note...anyone have any guesses as to what 2020 has planned for her finale? Zombies? Aliens? I mean murder hornets were kind of a bust... #drinkingimpairedmakesyouajackwagon #2020seasonfinale
