I got a text this morning from a previous client and this is how it went. client: I’m sorry I know it’s early but my sewer has backed up in my basement about six inches high wall to wall with feces. Me: Ok this sounds like this may be a sewer main issue. Ok here is the million dollar question, did you get the sewer and water line insurance I recommended? client: Yes! me: Ok call the insurance company and MSD and notify them. And call me when that’s done. client called ba...ck later: The insurance adjuster is coming in two days and MSD is on there way out now. me: Ok take a garbage bag and cut it in half. Tape each piece around your shoes and grab an extra bag. Go downstairs with a writing tablet and catalog with photos what’s damaged. Do not clean up anything. The adjuster needs to see it as it is. Also if it happens again before the adjuster comes take more photos and call the insurance company again. client: Thank you John! Every person that reads this need to contact the homeowners insurance company and ask them do you have Sewer and Water Line Protection in your homeowners policy with at least $25,000 coverage!
