Enjoy this beautiful little piece on our historic Jefferson Avenue Footbridge produced by our talented friends at Creative Endeavors. We're still in the "hurry up and wait" mode on putting the renovations out for bid...

Huzzah! Thank you City Council for your unanimous vote last night to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Federal Highway Administration and Missouri State Historic Preservation Office to proceed with getting bids for Jefferson Avenue Footbridge renovations. It will probably take about a month to complete this process and at least another month of advertising for bids before we see what kind of response to the bidding process we get...stay tuned...possibly for a late spring or early summer ground breaking.

Thank you everyone who attended, spoke or purchased a paver in support of this historic landmark. As you can see by this article, we need to sell more pavers and take donations in preparation for cost overruns. Go to historicCstreet.com under "Paver Sales" to become a "footbridge supporter."

These are all the pavers we had as of our press conference where we turned over the $50,000 we raised for our Jefferson Avenue Footbridge restoration on April 11, 2019. We have received more since then that we don't have pictures of. Do you see yours in here?

This past Wednesday, Springfield's Landmarks Board issued a Certificate of Appropriateness for the "Alternate" design supported by Commercial Club of Springfield as the design that preserves the original look and material of our Jefferson Avenue Footbridge. Will keep you posted as the project progresses to council and the bidding process...Don't forget to purchase a paver to show your support! historicCstreet.com look for "paver sales" under "About."

Latest update from Andrew Flippin, project manager for Public Works Department, City of Springfield: Landmarks Board on December 11, 2019 at 5:30p.m. Working to get the design plans approved through MoDOT's bridge department (MoDOT Historic Preservation Office has already approved the Memorandum of Agreement from the Section 106 process). Pending Landmarks Board approval, presentation to City Council of the Historic Preservation Memorandum of Agreement (result of the Se...ction 106 process) and permission to bid the project. If Council agrees to enter into the Memorandum of Agreement and gives a nod to proceed to bid with permission from MoDOT (major funder of project) Once these steps are completed, project goes out for bid. Advertisement for bids will take approximately 30 days. If we receive good bids, it will take 2 months after bids are received before construction starts. We are still pushing to do this as soon as possible and hope to see construction as early as Summer, 2020. Draft plans attached for project as approved by City Council and the alternate as supported by Commercial Club of Springfield. These plans are not final yet; all pending bids and final approval of City Council.
