China Martial Arts Ozarks 14.02.2021

Greetings! I will soon be offering pay-per-lesson instruction in the Chinese martial arts. This will not be the same kind as numerous videos on Youtube where some guy does a form and then says "Do this and you're doing Kung Fu". I will take apart the various moves from multiple styles and show where the power comes from and how to achieve this yourself. Also if you don't understand anything drop me a line and I will personally explain it to you. The lessons will range in price from $5.00 - $10.00 US per lesson (and most will be around $5.00). I will also address some classic instructional videos on the styes and show you where the demonstrator went wrong (usually omitting crucial information). After learning the material you'll be able to practice individually or with a partner and see and feel the power!

Master Ho Sik Pak's Tang Soo Do 9 tape set. In this set we have a very thorough demonstration of the Korean martial art of Tang Soo do. This was the original ar...t of Chuck Norris that he studied in South Korea. These tapes are very thorough and offer a detailed catalog of Tang Soo do training. The thing which seperates these from others in comparison is that the tapes go all the way up to 3rd Dan. Most of Panther's styles videos shut off a 1st Dan. Tang Soo do has lots of forms and they are demonstrated in entirety. Lots of really good info for anyone looking to get a feel for this art. Very Tae Kwon do wish in its execution. Ups - Very thorough and detailed instruction. Lots of good self defense moves. Downs - Not sure if we need slow mo on the forms which are not performed at fast speed anyway. Conclusion - Great set of tapes although I am not sure of their utility in learning TSD from a beginner perspective. I think I would find a legit teacher.

Larry Tatum "When Kenpo Strikes" Vol 1-23. I only have the first 9 of this set. Now I am kind of bias on kenpo. During the 1980's the most available video instr...uctional sets were from Kenpo and I saw quite a few. The main issue I had with them is that they were all basically the same stuff just presented by a different teacher. Kind of like BJJ vids whether they come from the Planet Niburu Jiu Jitsu place or the Gracie's, it's all basically the same moves n stuff. One cool thing about these is that there aren't any slow mo's. Now taking into account that this was a 23 volume set that means there must have been a shat load of material on these! There is another set that I used to have - the Mohammed Tabatai 40+ volume set but that one was just way to long and DID have slow mo's galore. Kenpo traces it's roots to Ed Parker who first studied Shotokan Karate (until being dropped by his teacher) and then studied San soo Kung Fu under Jimmy Woo. So American Kenpo is an amalgamation between Shotokan and San Soo. With that said and the observation that basically all styles of American Kenpo are the same I have to ask why did Panther have so many darn Kenpo vid sets by so many different dudes? And why were all of them so darn long? Well, anyway to the vids. Larry does a great job of teaching the stuff and he really breaks it down into the how's and why's. If I were to get a Kenpo set for the basis of studying then this one would probably do. Mohammed Tabatai's was too long and boring. And that is another observation about the Kenpo vids. Why are they so boring? I mean it's not just them take BJJ for instance. How many times do you watch some dude apply a triangle choke before you contemplate hanging yourself? Most of the stuff on here is basic Karate that you can find on more than 2 dozen other Panther sets yet Kenpo is right up there with BJJ vids as a top offering with a wide range of individual stylists. I don't know how well these things sold but the cost of a 23 vid set was in the upper hundreds of dollars. Ups - No slow mo's. Downs - 23 vids!? Seriously? Kenpo is boring enough on 4-5 tapes!

Lee Bachman Kenpo Wise Physics of Motion and Deception 6 tape set. Okay......I will be the first to admit that after watching all of Mohammed Tabatai's 40+ tape... Kenpo set I basically hated life. And watching any Kenpo video after that is basically as rewarding as watching paint dry. I will say that I found this set and another the David German one that I previously viewed exceptions. The tape starts off with a introductory demo of Lee Bachman in the traditional Panther vibe. The part where he is demonstrating the staff reminded me of that kid in the youtube video "Drunken Jedi Master". Anyway Lee actually does a great job of instructing you in the actual physics behind the movements in order to get Karate to work. What he teaches here is often lacking among lots of Karate guys I run into. I always end up telling someone with a Karate background I am training that simply mildly slapping the opponent on his or her body might score a point but in the real world it just pisses people off. All the trainingand tips on here are good in perspective. Its something I would advise anyone to give a good watch and take notes. This isn't a catalog of Kenpo technique of which Panther had another half dozen out there at the time, each equally boring. IT is a treatise on how to make what you do know work more effectively. And also like the David German videos - no slow mo's and repeats. Ups - Very good usable information for practs of any style. Bachman seems to be a very good teacher with a handle on real world fighting. Downs - Within the context of what he is trying to accomplish he does a good job and the tapes fit nicely on 6 vids as opposed to Panther's usual 12-16 with repeat and slow mo. So I will say no downs here.
