In 1976, at the Bromont, Quebec summer Olympics, my horse was stabled near the big thoroughbred dressage horse, Keen, and I overheard Keen's owner, Hilda Gurney..., telling someone about how Keen had not always been a big horse with strong muscular development. It is possible, if you have the time, the patience, the program, and a suitable horse, to body build or "sculpt" a normal looking horse into the horse equivalent of a human body builder which is what Hilda said she'd done with Keen., Tense here is no Keen, but he is a far cry from the thin race horse with the scrawny neck that came out of the claiming ranks after 34 starts. Stallions should work for a living first, and prove that they are all three of these: sound, sane, athletic. If they are NOT sound, sane athletic, geld them. Why pass the wrong traits down the line? "Pretty" isn`t even close to the right answer.

Beautiful weather for horse showing today at the NEC’s schooling dressage show. Two great riders each had two amazing tests. Kendahl Vlasaty and her pony Richie scored a 70%, earning them a first place at their first dressage show. Lynn Wright and her mare LuLu won their T-1 class with a 69%. They’re ready for regionals!
