In this special Halloween edition of "River Ramblings", Todd takes us to Devil’s Well in Shannon County to discuss the connection between the karst topography of the Ozarks and our Wilson’s Creek 319 Grant.

"For the last four decades, the Aleys have also conducted and consulted on hydrogeological studies of caves and karst systems across the globe. Much of their innovative work has become standard practice in the field of dye-tracing and their services have been contracted by the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, MDC, and other states, counties, and municipalities." Congratulations, Tom and Cathy!

Thanks to the folks at Missouri Stream Teams, the JRBP crew are now re-certified in Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring protocols! JRBP conducts two sampling events on South Creek as part of our Wilson's Creek 319 Grant to observe macroinvertebrates, which are the "canary in the coal mine" when it comes to water quality. We also assist other stream teams in the James River basin and Southwest Missouri. If it looks like fun, visit our friends at Missouri Stream Teams and Stream Teams United to learn how you can get started, or sign up with JRBP as a volunteer! #LoveYourWater #WeloveMissouriStreams #missouristreamteams

We were fortunate to have Kaitlyn as a guest speaker on our 2018 member float, talking about the history of guided floats on the James and other Ozarks rivers! Both Ozarks Alive and KSMU - Ozarks Public Radio are great supporters of JRBP and our local waters.

Our friends over at Stream Teams United have an awesome opportunity for students to learn about their local water treatment!

Check out this great blog from the Izaak Walton League of America highlighting "whole-system" farming and its role in protecting soil and water. Whole system farming includes a variety of best management practices (BMPs), such as establishing riparian buffer zones, no-till planting, alternative livestock watering and native planting to help reduce agricultural runoff and provide wildlife habitat. A number of these BMPs are part of our Wilson's Creek 319 Grant, including an upcoming tree planting project and invasive species removal at Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park and riparian projection through conservation easements in the Wilson's Creek watershed.
