A special thanks to two great partners : Michael Jacobsen of Midway Auto Sales (giving Danielle a hug) and Dave Sullivan of ArtsTech.
Danielle Benson was able to drive away today from Midway Auto Sales in KC with a replacement van. The mother of eight children lost her old van when it was struck during a gun battle at a KC convenience store. The Jackson County Prosecutor's Office and @ArtsTech organized a gofundme effort that raised more than $10,000 to help her replace the damaged vehicle. Thank you, thank you, Kansas City, for your great generosity. More than 100 individuals donated to the campaign, giving enough funds to cover vehicle -- which Midway Auto sold at cost -- and to pay sales tax on the newer vehicle.
KCTV 5 has been great in keeping the community updated on this family's plight. Thanks much. https://www.kctv5.com//article_133cd7da-3b44-11eb-a823-375

The Kansas City community, led by the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office and ArtsTech, is raising funds to buy a used van for a mother of eight who was caught in crossfire near 79th and Troost Avenue in Kansas City on Thanksgiving evening. She had nothing to do with this shooting, which killed one. Her van is totaled. She and her family are safe but she has needs a vehicle for a busy family. It's a COVID-19 pandemic and it's also the season for giving. Kansas City can rally for a new van for this struggling family.

Several members of the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office, including Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker, took part today in the national Wear Orange campaign to reduce gun violence.
