Dr. Smith grew up in Columbia and Jefferson City, Missouri. He received his Medical Degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine in 2002 and completed his General Surgery training at The University of Colorado in 2007. He practiced in Branson, Missouri for a year prior to joining Dr. Spehar at Independence Surgical Clinic. Dr. Smith is certified by the American Board of Surgery. He and his wife have two children. Dr. Smith enjoys bicycle-riding with his wife, backyard sports with his children, traveling with his family, baseball, and trout fishing.

Dr. Spehar was born in Paris, France, but claims Kansas City as his home, having lived here since the age of five, when his family immigrated to the United States. He earned his Medical Degree at The University of Kansas in 1994, where he also completed his General Surgery Residency in 1989.He then became part of Independence Surgical Clinic, and remains dedicated to providing exceptional surgical care for our community.He is certified by the American Board of Surgery, and he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Spehar enjoys long-distance running, science fiction, tropical fish, and traveling the world with his wife and two children.
