April is Distracted Driving Month. Distracted driving has become a deadly epidemic, killing 3,142 people in 2019 - a 10% increase from 2018! Texting is just the start of a long list of distractions that steal your focus from the road. Do your part to reduce distracted driving and keep yourself and others safe. Put down the phone. Silence your phone and start playlists before driving.... Plan your route. Program the GPS and review the directions before setting out. Buckle up all passengers and pets. Keep pets safely in the back so they do not become a distraction or hazard when driving. Store items safely. Securely store items to keep them from moving. Store your phone to reduce the temptation. Properly storing items reduces their projectile risks if you are in an accident or need to suddenly slam the breaks. Don't multitask. Do not eat or drink behind the wheel. Do personal grooming at home or when you reach your destination. Set expectations. Tell passengers they need to sit still and keep conversation to a minimum. Let friends, family, and coworkers know you will not be responding to emails, texts, or calls when driving. #IBAWay #BeIndependent
