Hutson Quarter Horse

So I've been struggling with a little filly I ride. She's been coming along in her training but I've been frustrated because it feels like we should be further ...along by now given how talented she is. So when it came to a head, I just stopped and sat on her for a moment in deep thought about how best to help her reach her full potential. Then a conversation I had with my mom a while back on the matter popped into my head. She told me about when they first moved to Nebraska in '81 & she brought her string to biggest year end show there. And she won the Hunt Seat class, the Hunter Under Saddle class, the Two Year Old futurity & the Three Year Old futurity. Then she heard rumors of people thinking she must've cheated somehow or maybe even drugged her horses. (Which is absurd if you know my mom). But one guy came up and asked her how she managed to have that many top notch horses & clean up at the show. She said, "You wouldn't believe me if I told you." He said, "Yes, I will!" She said "No, I bet you won't!" He said, "I sure will!" So she told him of how every time she hit a tough spot in their training, that she'd stop and pray on the spot, and ask God to help her and help her horses. She asked for insight to each one, and wisdom on how to connect & excel with them as individuals. And it worked! He stood there with his mouth open, not knowing what to say. But the proof was 'in the pudd'n'! So with that recollection, I smiled & sent up my own prayer for me & this little bay mare. Took a deep breath, loped off again, built speed, said whoa and she gave me one of the best stops she's had so far! As I patted her butt and looked back to inspect her tracks I noticed a coin she had slid over. I hopped off, scooped it up, and the first words I see are "In God we trust." I got the cowgirl goosebumps right then & there. And like that man I stood there with my mouth open, not knowing what to say. But the proof was in the dirt. And my prayer still in the air! He's the best Trainer there is! He'll speak to our heart, build on our foundation, help us in our weakness, & capitalize on our abilities to help us reach our full potential. PRIME example as to WHY, you want to pay attention to your saddles AND take care of the leather.(that's scrubbing your leather with warm dawn water and a tooth ...brush, then rinsing it off, THEN applying a generous amount of oil (neatsfoot oil, peanut oil, olive oil, etc.. an oil WITHOUT the word compounding it, aka "neatsfoot compound". . This particular saddle was being worked out of sometimes daily. I literally went to pick this saddle up by the cinch ring, and it ripped out of its place.. thank God, it wasnt being used when it gave way.. See more

Hope Heryford got Pepe from us the first of June he was halter broke. She has done a wonderful job in only four months.
