Because of YOU Pantry for Adair County was able to add this additional food to over half of our clients during the month of December. Sheila's She Shed has arrived at the Pantry for Adair County. No more standing out in the elements collecting client information. Thank You to Jimmy Brownell and sons for the construction and delivery of this shed. It will make the winter manageable and certainly more comfortable. SO - when you come to the pantry to get food, know you must first stop at Sheila's She Shed to get the process started, before backing up to the concrete for loading. ... Be watching for directions.

Not long ago Pantry for Adair County was awarded a $2,500 grant from Tri-County Electric. We used those funds and added a little to purchase this 2-door True Cooler. It is being used to hold cool items like eggs, milk and etc while distribution is taking place. It arrived on Monday, January 4th and is now in service. Thank You Tri-County Electric and other donors for providing us with this valuable piece of refrigeration equipment.

Pantry for Adair County had a busy day yesterday, only made possible by the many volunteers who showed up at a moments notice to help with the projects. Upon arriving at the PAC we discovered that all of the concrete was a skating rink, dangerous to walk on and really slick.. Call into action some kids I know - Travis, Keith, Stephen, Megdalynn and their momma Megin - they came with shovels, picks and lots of energy. Guided by Mark Crawford, along with Mary Crawford, Mary... Myers and Chris Korte and lots of ice melt, it was mostly clear by 11 am. Then we received an extra truck yesterday with some awesome stuff, which often means sorting, sorting, sorting. And once again the volunteers stepped up and before we left at 3:30 it was all sorted, put away and the mess cleaned up. We have the best volunteers in town, dedicated, determined and willing to come with a text notice that help is needed. Thank You one and all for all the work that you did yesterday. We couldn't do it without you. Blessings and Best Wishes for 2020. Sheila, Executive Director/Operations Manager.

Saturday, September 19th Pantry for Adair County welcomed Elaine AuBushon's Freshman Symposium class from Truman. 40+ students spent an hour working on much needed projects that required additional hands to accomplish the task. Shopping, defrosting freezers, cleaning shelves, painting, re-stocking of shelving, cleaning floors, and sorting a pallet of miscellaneous shelf stable food items recently received, filled their time of service. A BIG SHOUT OUT to each one who came and served PAC and their clients by helping with these projects. BIG THANKS to friend Amy from West Liberty, IA who may have chose the wrong weekend to visit. Way to go Truman Freshman!!!!

We received a huge shipment of dried yellow lentils (split peas) at the pantry...here's an easy to make "crock pot" meal that has a wonderful fall warmth to it. If you don't have a crock pot, a pot on the stove will do; just be sure to keep the heat low after bringing to a boil, and stir often. It won't take as long on the stove, but you'll want to avoid it sticking to the bottom of the pot. CHICKEN AND LENTIL STEW (Serves 4-6) INGREDIENTS:... 2 cups dried yellow lentils 1/2 cup plain yogurt 1 quart Chicken broth 1/2 pound diced boneless chicken pieces (The frozen diced chicken we have at the pantry right now will do nicely!) 1 small onion 1 medium to large tomato 1/2 cup of okra (or green beans, or carrots, or whatever veggie you have leftover in your fridge--the more veggies you add, the further the stew will "stretch") 2 teaspoons garlic powder 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper 2 teaspoons salt 2 teaspoons curry powder 1/2 teaspoon cumin pinch of turmeric 1/4 cup honey OR 1/3 cup brown sugar 2 tablespoons olive oil or cooking oil Put all ingredients in the crock pot, turn the heat to "low" and cook 4-6 hours, until enough of the water has evaporated and it has the thick consistency of a stew and the lentils are soft. Serve with bread, crackers, or dinner rolls to help wipe up every last drop!
