Sgt. Mason providing protection for an outside concert by the Kansas City Symphony recently, located at a Kansas City shopping center that we provide services for. He is the site supervisor there. Sgt. Mason has been employed with our agency since 2015. He is a retired Prairie Village Kansas Police Sergeant. Sgt. Mason began serving this community in 1976. Supplemental to his regular assignment he holds the following positions within our company - Law Enforcement Computer System Coordinator and he is a part of the Training/Licensing staff. Finding people these days that have a dedication to this occupation are getting harder and harder to find. Here's one! Congratulations Sgt. Mason for decades of law enforcement work.

Friday night was our first motorcycle fatality since Missouri's helmet law changed. It happened at 435 and Cookingham about 8:30 p.m. The driver was not wearing... a helmet and failed to negotiate a curve on the exit ramp, running off the roadway. Law or no law, keep in mind helmets are designed to protect you, and not wearing one increases your risk of injury and death. See more

What will #OperationLegend look like in Kansas City? Named after murdered 4-year-old LeGend Taliferro, this initiative WILL mean federal help for KCPD from the ...ATF, FBI, DEA and U.S. Marshals in solving violent crimes, catching violent offenders and bringing those cases for effective prosecution. It WON'T be federal agents patrolling Kansas City streets. Learn more: https://www.kcpd.org//operation-legend-brings-federal-res/ See more

JULY 17 UPDATE: By popular demand, we were able to track down this woman (though it took a while). Her name is Shetara Sims (she's pictured at left in the photo... on the GoFundMe page), and she agreed to have a fund set up for her. Even still, when we tracked her down, she said, "Doesn't the officer's family need it more than me?" She's got a heart of gold, and here's how you can help her out: gf.me/u/ygr4ya. ORIGINAL POST, JULY 10: We took a call on Friday from a woman who wanted to help the officer who was shot July 2 and remains in critical condition in the ICU. We advised he's well cared for, but if she wanted to donate for restaurant or gas station gift cards for his family so they can eat at and travel to/from the hospital, we were accepting those at East Patrol Division. She went on to say she lives in the urban core of Kansas City, and her daughter was murdered in 2012. She said the detectives who worked her daughter's case were like her therapists, fathers, and lifelines all in one. She said she was laid off a month ago due to COVID-19, and she's been struggling to pay her bills. She went to the grocery store last week and found a $1 bill in the parking lot. She used that to buy a lottery ticket, with which she won $100. Her 12-year-old daughter was with her and said, "Mom, we should give that to the police officer who got shot." She agreed immediately. With her current financial hardship, we urged her to keep the money. She refused, saying the officer's family needed it, and police needed to know they were supported. We've been talking about this story among ourselves all weekend, and we are floored and incredibly humbled. THANK YOU to this woman; THANK YOU to the amazing people of Kansas City.

These boys and their mom have come to know Officer Simbro in Central Patrol Division. They made these signs because they thought the message applied to both them and police officers. Then they brought them to the station and asked to take pictures with the officers.

Homeland Security Protective Service has deployed two sets of officers to protect assets on the plaza tonight. Last night we were there as well without any major incident other than one officer suffering from exposure to gas deployed by the police department. We pray that all goes well tonight and everyone is safe while these officers serve their community.
