It's that time of the year again: HPSLC's Spring semester case study! This semester we will be focusing on a fascinating and complex case about a patient with COVID-19. Join us, virtually, for an educational and fun experience with your fellow healthcare professionals. Link is available via email and on our social medias. "See" you there!
BLM FUNDRAISER: HPSLC has partnered with a group of students who have organized a student-art sticker fundraiser in support of Black Lives Matter with intentions of donating proceeds to Action St. Louis. Please see the attached one-pager for further information on Action St. Louis and their current campaigns. If you would like to support this cause by ordering stickers and/or donating, please complete the Google Form (link in comments). Please order by the end of the week (March 5th) to receive your order by Spring Break.
Thanks for everyone who took a study break and played trivia with us last week! Spending time with our peers is always worth it.
This week, HPSLC wants to celebrate just some of the many Black individuals who were/are trailblazers in medicine.
Last semester, HPSLC posted articles on current events in healthcare. With February being Black History Month, HPSLC wants to focus our attention and discussion more directly on racial disparities in healthcare and celebrate Black pioneers in medicine. As future professionals in our respective field, we have the responsibility to educate ourselves and enact change. "A logical place to start having discussions about racial disparities in healthcare is in the medical schools where physicians are being trained."
Register to donate blood! The blood drive will take place at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (One Barnes Hospital Plaza, North South Link, St. Louis, MO 63119).... If you are interested in donating blood, please register in advance through Wash U Blood Drive Sign Up. All current COVID-19 guidelines for the WUSM/BJH campus in addition to the American Red Cross guidelines must be met in order to donate. The Red Cross is proud to offer COVID 19 Anti-Body Testing for all blood donors at this time.In order to allow us to best plan for the blood drives, we are asking donors to please sign up for an appointment in advance of the blood drive.I have included the direct link below.Since this drive is not open to the public, it will not be searchable on the www.redcrossblood.org site, unless the sponsor code WashU is entered into the search field. We encourage all donors to complete a Rapid Pass prior to their donation appointment on January 26. The Rapid Pass can be found on the Red Cross App or by logging onto www.redcrossblood.org/rapidpass. Due to the nature of the information gathered on Rapid Pass, it must be completed on the same day as donation, in order to ensure it is the most current information.
