THANKFUL, NO MATTER WHAT! Are you thankful no matter what? It could be that you have recently lost your job. Perhaps due to the recent global pandemic, other financial hardships have come your way, or perhaps you have suffered directly (health-wise) from COVID-19. How about your family? Perhaps you lost someone near and dear to you. There are lots of circumstances that can cause us to pause in our thanksgiving to the Lord, but the truth is, if we are a blood-bought child o...Continue reading

HEAR AND DO! Within the greatest sermon ever preached (the Sermon on the Mount) the Lord Jesus taught the most important truths that we must heed and obey. Interestingly enough, Jesus explained at the very end of the sermon that hearing His teaching without doing it - is really quite foolish and even dangerous. He said in Matthew 7:24, Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock. An...d then Jesus said in verse 26, But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does NOT do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. In today’s world of cram and convenience, it seems nearly impossible that true discipleship by the Lord’s definition is possible. But the fact is, according to Jesus, hearing God’s word and even knowing God’s will is not enough. God wants action! Jesus said, if you hear, but do not do you are a foolish person! How about you today? Perhaps you read God’s Holy Word every day! You meditate on it; you think about it --- but are you applying it? For example, it is not enough to know that Jesus loved others even those who persecuted Him and fail to love others as well. The apostle Paul said that love never fails (1 Cor. 13:8). And just before making that statement, the apostle Paul described all the things that love DID! Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. So, you might think that what Jesus taught is quite difficult to do! Yet according to God, if it is done in love it really isn’t difficult or burdensome at all. The apostle John said in 1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. So, remember the teaching of Jesus, be wise.hear.AND.do! tr

You CanToday It has been said, Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of God, which is why we call it the present. And this is true. The Holy Scripture concurs with this fact. The Lord Jesus Himself said in Matthew 6:34, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Jesus also said in Luke 9:62, No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.... Why? Because whether past, present or future the Lord is there and only He can take away the pain and regret of the past, calm our worried mind about the potential dread of the future and give us a way to escape the stressors of the here and now. Scripture tells us, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8) And so, even though we cannot do anything about yesterday or tomorrow we can do something about today. First, we learn from scripture that today is a gift from the Lord. Yesterday is no more, therefore it does no good to live in the past. Nor is it wise to miss out on now for always daydreaming about the future. The psalmist wrote in Psalms 118:24, This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it! Second, we learn from scripture that today is the time for salvation. We cannot find redemption in yesterday, nor can we be forgiven for the sins of tomorrow. Only today, is there hope of reconciliation with the God of heaven. The apostle Paul said in 2 Corinthians 6:2b, behold, now is the day of salvation. And third, we learn from scripture that only while it is called today do we have the opportunity to encourage others. The Bible says in Hebrews 13:3, But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called today, that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. So, don’t fret about yesterday and don’t wait until tomorrow start right now. There is nothing that you can do about yesterday or tomorrow but you CAN do something today! tr

What Our Children Teach Us... The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, The leopard shall lie down with the young goat, The calf and the young lion and the fatling together;... And a little child shall lead them. (Isaiah 11:6) What is more precious, than a child? Jesus said regarding children, of such is the kingdom of heaven. The psalmist wrote, Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord and Solomon said, Grandchildren are the crown of the aged. We learn so much from children. They teach us the joy of playing and laughing. They show us how to forgive and forget. They inspire us with their innocence, their trust and their love! In Mark 10 Jesus took up little children into His arms and said, Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it. How do we receive the kingdom of God like a child? The scripture tells us in Matthew 21 when Jesus came into Jerusalem, some of the children who were in the Jewish temple saw Jesus and cried out, Hosanna to the Son of David! This provoked outrage among the Jewish religious rulers who chided the Lord saying, Do you hear what these are saying? Jesus then quoted from the Psalms 8, Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise? The faith of a child is very precious to the Lord. He greatly desires that we have a heart of faith that trusts Him completely like a child trusts her parents. Perhaps in the hustle and bustle of adult life we can grow up in our faith for God and learn from the children to take His hand and believe. tr
