Joe Friend from St. Louis Christian College will be with us again tomorrow preaching from the series of sermons on the Sermon on the Mount. Our worship service will begin at 9:30 am and we urge you to join us. The cover for tomorrow's worship bulletin is based upon Matthew 6: 19-24 which is in the Sermon on the Mount where we are told by Jesus that we can not serve both God and money. This cover design challenges all of us to honestly answer this question. So where is your treasure? The devotional gives some additional information that is worth your time to read.

We will begin our Sunday worship service at 9:30 am tomorrow morning. After singing hymns of praise, offering prayers to God, and taking the Lord's Supper, James McFarland from St. Louis Christian College, will share a sermon from the series based upon Jesus' Sermon on the Mount that is found in Matthew 5, 6, and 7. This week's sermon will be based upon Matthew 6:16-18 where Jesus talked with His followers about fasting. The devotional titled, "Prayer with Fasting" that is included in tomorrow's worship bulletin explains why we as Christians need to combine prayer with fasting. Sure hope you will come join us tomorrow so you can learn more about fasting, just like the rest of us.

Our worship service will begin at 9:30 tomorrow morning and we sincerely wish you would join us. Joe Friend, from St. Louis Christian College, will give the next sermon from the series of sermons based upon Jesus' Sermon on the Mount that is found in Matthew 5,6, and 7. The cover design is based upon Matthew 6: 5-15 where Jesus teaches His followers how to pray and the devotional gives some thoughts based upon those verses. Hopefully you will take a few short minutes to read this Scripture and the devotional. Just as we cherish our conversations with family and friends, God cherishes our conversations with Him.

Join us at 9:30 when we gather to worship and hear James McFarland bring us the next sermon based upon Jesus's Sermon on the Mount that is recorded in Matthew 5, 6, and 7. The devotional that is included in our worship bulletin for tomorrow helps explain this teaching from Jesus. Giving with Discretion... Matthew 6:14 Society is apt to take notice whenever the wealthy establish a foundation for the sake of charitable giving. Such persons are lauded for their generosity and good work in giving to those in need. More often than not, these people seek this publicity, wanting us to know how open-handed they truly are. ...The world pursues the accolades of men, but God’s people are not to do the same. In fact, if we practice righteousness for the accolades of other people, Jesus tells us we have no reward from our Father in heaven. He applies this general principle to the three chief acts of Jewish piety almsgiving, prayer, and fasting beginning in today’s passage with giving to the poor. Our Savior warns us against sounding the trumpet when we give. In His own context He may be referring to the priestly blowing of the shofar (a ram’s horn trumpet) whenever there is a great need in the community. When this happened in His day, there was often an ostentatious display of men closing up shop and running toward the temple to be the first ones seen responding to the call. Trumpet-shaped collection boxes where money could be deposited to help the poor were present at the temple in the first century AD, and these may also be the basis for Christ’s analogy in verses 24. Coins thrown into these boxes might make a loud noise, announcing that a great gift has been given. In any case, our Lord’s point is quite clear: Do not give in order to receive praise from men. ...Just as under the old covenant, For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land., Deuteronomy 15:11. Jesus assumes we will give to the poor, and this must be done in hopes for a reward from God, not from others. Let us do all we can to give our alms, but with the aim of caring so little for the praise of men that we are ourselves scarcely aware of our own generosity. Giving with Discretion. The world just doesn't get it, and sadly, sometimes as Christians, we forget what Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:39-40. As the devotional, "Love Covers It" explains it, we are to respond to hateful remarks or actions with Grace. Is that hard? Sure. But... Join us tomorrow when James McFarland from St. Louis Christian College brings us the next sermon from the series of sermons based upon the Sermon on the Mount which is found in Matthew 5, 6 and 7. We will have our worship service at 9:30 with Sunday School classes beginning at 10:30. We would love to have you join us.

This is certainly a time of turbulence and we often hear expressions of open hatred. In Luke 6:27-28 Jesus is telling us how we are to treat our enemies. This devotional that is based on that section from the New Testament book of Luke titled,"Do What to Enemies?" is worth your time, but this is definitely not a "feel-good" devotional. Join us tomorrow at 9:30 am when we will gather to worship the Lord by prayers, singing of hymns and taking the Lord's Supper, as well as hearing a sermon from Joe Friend from St. Louis Christian College. Joe will be preaching from the series of sermons from the Sermon on the Mount that Jesus preached from Matthew 5, 6, and 7.

Always. The devotional, "When You Need Hope for Your Day", reminds us that God will never forget us.
