As we told everyone earlier, for families to sign up for FEMA funds to reimburse expenses related to COVID-19 funerals, they will need to call a toll free number. Hours of Operation: Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Central Time If you had COVID-19 funeral expenses, we encourage you to keep and gather documentation. Types of information should include: 1. An official death certificate that attributes the death directly or indirectly to COVID-19 and shows that the death occurred in the United States, including the U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia. 2. Funeral expenses documents (receipts, funeral home contract, etc.) that includes the applicant’s name, the deceased person’s name, the amount of funeral expenses, and the dates the funeral expenses happened. 3. Proof of funds received from other sources specifically for use toward funeral costs. We are not able to duplicate benefits received from burial or funeral insurance, financial assistance received from voluntary agencies, government agencies, or other sources. Born December 24, 1967 in Bradenton, FL, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Prater and the late Dorothy Chriswell Burch. Barbara was a member of the Church of Christ in Odessa. She enjoyed reading the Bible, spending time with her kids and grandchildren, home décor and shopping. Hoefer Funeral Home is looking for 3 or 4 interested individuals to assist part-time with removals, and possibly visitations and funerals. Job description for removals: You would be required to be able to get to the funeral home in a timely fashion for removals (15 minutes or less). You would receive proper training on all expected duties. You would ride with a second staff member to the location dispatched and assist moving the deceased from the place of death to a cot for ...transportation back to the funeral home. You would need to be able to assist lifting heavy bodies. Job description for visitations/funerals: You would be required to dress formally. Visitations are usually relaxed and you would be required to greet guests at the door and assist with any of their needs, (directions to bathroom, usher to a seat, assist elderly people with memorials, etc.) Funerals would require you to help get the casket into the church/venue, usher guests to their seats, assist closing the casket with a funeral director, run the camcorder if the service is filmed, help escort and usher guests out when the service is over. The perfect candidate: Punctual, professional, appropriately dressed, compassionate, empathetic, and kind. Capable of being in the same room as a deceased human and remain calm. Capable of assisting in lifting heavy objects (caskets, deceased humans) Able to handle difficult removal calls car wrecks, crime scenes, decomposition, and young children. We pay a professional wage. $100 on all removals some may take 15 minutes while others 3 hours. $150 for visitation/funeral combination. $100 for funeral service or memorial service only and $50 for graveside only.

Born Wednesday, May 12, 1954 in Kansas City, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Krueger and the late Carole (Whisler) Krueger. She was the wife of George Opitz who survives of the home. Kenneth Dale Martin entered into the presence of Jesus on Thursday, January 21, 2021, at his home in Odessa, MO. He was 55 years old. Ken was born on May 4, 1965, at Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base in Belton, MO. He is the second of three children. He loved his adventures as the son of a Senior Master Sergeant in the Air Force and got to live in various places like Kansas City, MO and San Bernardino, CA for eight years; and even in England for three years. After retiring from ...the Air Force in 1981, Ken’s father moved the family to Grain Valley where Ken graduated from Grain Valley High School in 1983. Ken worked at Haldex Brake Systems for about 15 years. After leaving Haldex, he worked as an independent computer technician in the IT industry. As a young man, he married Robin Williams and they had two daughters, Cari and Stephanie. His second marriage to Blanche Hare gave him another daughter, Hannah. Ken was quite the computer geek, swapping out parts and pieces, and building his own super machines. He enjoyed his fish aquariums, collecting and trading fish as a hobby. He enjoyed sci-fi movies, the Marvel Cinematic Universe being his most recent passion to enjoy watching with Stephanie. He also enjoyed fishing and hanging out with his Dad before he passed away. His treasured daughters captured his primary focus. He loved hearing about their lives and adventures and spending time with them. Ken is preceded in death by his father, Lonzo Duane Martin; his brother, Paul Duane Martin; his paternal grandmother, Vonda Martin; his paternal great-grandparents (who raised Lonzo), Oscar Paul Martin and Daisy Rae Martin; and maternal great-grandparents, Ethel Elizabeth (Best) Green and Claude Harley Lusher; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his three daughters, Cari Sue Martin, Stephanie Kay Martin and Hannah Lillith Martin Elliot; a grandson, Brandon Lee Martin; his mother, Nancy Sue (Lusher) Martin; a brother, Lonnie (Mary) Martin; and two nieces, Krystal and Sierra. Elliott Raymond Dunn, 47 of Richmond, Missouri passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at his place of employment in Higginsville, Missouri. He was born Tuesday, July 17, 1973 in Independence, Missouri, and was the son of the late Sherman Dunn and the late Bertha (Morris) Dunn. He was the husband of the late Anne (Connole) Dunn. She preceded him in death on July 6, 2018. He attended First Baptist Church of Oak Grove where he was baptized. Elliott graduated from O...ak Grove High School - class of 1993. Known as the smart one in the family, Elliott attended CMSU where he earned a Master's of Arts in Teaching. Elliott was currently working as a caregiver in community services but his passion in life was the newspaper industry. He worked for multiple newspapers throughout his life as a graphic designer - The Kansas City Star, Lexington News, The Leader Statesman, in Versailles, MO, and the Lake Sun-Leader in Osage Beach, Missouri. Elliott spent some time as a sports editor and a reporter for these papers as well as graphic designer. He enjoyed providing the news for his community. He was a history buff and attributed his journalism as recording history. His love for history led him to join the Masonic Lodge. Elliott enjoyed reading and learning about military history too. He participated in many Civil War reenactments. All of his military and history studies led to a grand hat collection of many different eras. He had Top hats, Fedoras, Trilby hats, Bowler and Velvet hats, and many military hats just to name a few. He had over 200 hats in his collection. Elliott truly cared for animals as well and loved all his pets like family. Elliott's sudden death leaves his friends and family in shock but they will remember him for his charismatic demeanor and love of life. Surviving are one brother, Aaron (Angela) Dunn of Lexington, MO; one sister, Deborah (Wayne) Jones of Reeds Spring, MO; many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Justin "Alfie" Wade McGinnis, 41 of Concordia, Missouri passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021 in a car accident south of Concordia. He was born Friday, October 12, 1979 in Sweet Springs, Missouri, and was the son of the late Roger McGinnis and Patty (Rehkop) McGinnis. Justin attended St. Paul Lutheran Grade School where he was baptized and confirmed and attended Concordia High School. Justin grew up on a 20 acre farm in Concordia and enjoyed spending time outdoors. He was... always outside playing and fishing in the creeks and swimming in the pond with his friends and siblings. Justin had a knack for wanting to know how things worked. He was always taking things apart then putting them back together, just to understand how they worked. He had a gift for fixing things and was always tinkering with cars and trucks. His family enjoyed his expertise in auto mechanics and appreciated all the work he did on family vehicles. As an adult he enjoyed attending New Life Church with his family in Concordia. Justin worked in construction for most of his life but currently worked for Maxion Wheels in Sedalia, Missouri. He enjoyed working outdoors and was known to make quite the mess with his chainsaw. He truly cared for animals, and loved all his pets like family. Although his circle of friends was small, he cared deeply for those close friends. Justin cherished the time he spent with his family especially during the holidays. He could often be found cooking huge meals to share with them and sometimes to their frustration, making a bigger mess of dishes. Family was important to Justin, he loved his family very much. He leaves behind four children that he loved more than anything in the world. Justin had his own personal struggles and fought hard to overcome them. His close friends and family are so proud of him for finding his true self and fighting to overcome those struggles. He will be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle, father, and great friend. Randall Norman Bohrn, 65 of Lake Lafayette, Missouri passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021, at his home in Lake Lafayette, Missouri. He was born Friday, February 25, 1955 in Battle Creek, Michigan, and was the son of the late Kenneth Bohrn and the late Velma (Fenn) Bohrn. Randall graduated from Central High School in Battle Creek ,Michigan. He earned a Bachelors degree in Communications from the University of Michigan. Randall worked as a social worker for the State of Mic...higan. Randall was a member of the Zion Hope Church in rural Sibley, MO. He served in many capacities at the church as deacon, church recorder, church historian, and he managed all the sound equipment for the church. Randall loved music and sang in the church choir with his strong tenor voice. He was a very unique person and will be greatly missed by all who came to know him. Surviving are one son, Michael Norman Bohrn of Albion, MI; one daughter, Bethany Bradford (Bohrn) of Albion; and one sister, Susan Brann of Lake Montezuma, AZ. Terry Lynn Manning (Waugh), 61 of Higginsville, Missouri died on Thursday, January 7, 2021, at her home. She was born Sunday, September 13, 1959 in Chicago, Illinois, and was the daughter of the late John Waugh and Ellen (Bentley) Bryant. Terry grew up in a military family and moved around, but settled in Blue Springs, MO and attended Blue Springs High School. She was passionate about her pets and loved dogs. She spent some time living in the Ozarks and worked as a secretary..., doing clerical work for a mechanical shop. The Ozarks gave her the opportunity to fish and boat often. She enjoyed the lake water and jet skiing. Working for a mechanical shop brought about the love of dirt track racing. Racing was her life. The family was at the track every weekend. She was a score keeper and helped with all racing aspects from changing tires to helping strap her kids in the race car when it was their turn to race. She supported every family member's racing dreams and was always there cheering and screaming for them. She even raced in the Powder Puff races, which is when all the wives and significant-others race each other in their husband's race cars. Terry loved spending time with family whether on the dirt track or at home; family was everything to Terry. She will be missed by her family, friends and her race community. Surviving are two sons, Ryan (Tiffanie) O'Malley of Sedalia, MO and Patrick O'Malley of Higginsville; three daughters, Kelly (Mike) Kelly of Higginsville, Stacey Manning of Higginsville, and Christy Manning of Higginsville; her mother, Ellen Bryant of Sedalia; one sister, Missy Duke of Grayson, KY; fifteen grandchildren, Tyler, Zoe and Dru, Savanah, Harley, Landon, P.D., Trevor, Adelian, Brynlee, Sierra, Tyee, Slade, Lilyanna, Gabriela, Ariabella; two great-grand-children, Alexander, Rucker and 2 great-grand-children on the way. James A. "Paddlefoot" Thompson, 76 of Higginsville, Missouri passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2020, at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Missouri. He was born Friday, December 31, 1943 in Bland, Missouri, and was the son of the late Otto Thompson and the late Blanche (Cox) Thompson. Jim graduated from Higginsville High School - Class of 1961. He married Lola (Goring) Thompson on July 31, 1981 and they joined their two families together creating one large blende...d family. Jim spent his career in transportation as a truck driver. Locally, he drove for Schloman Asphalt, A&J's Auto Salvage, Ash Grove, and Waller Trucking. Being a truck driver, Jim would use the CB radio to communicate. Paddlefoot was his CB radio handle. He was given the nickname "Paddlefoot" by co-workers because his feet were so huge. Jim loved racing. He especially enjoyed going to sprint car races and modified stock car races. He was fortunate enough to be able to attend Knoxville last year. He spent many days going to his grandkids events and sports games. Jim enjoyed spending time at the lake and drinking coffee around town with friends. Jim will be remembered as a loving father, a doting PaPa, and devoted husband. Paddlefoot will be sorely missed by his family, his friends, and his entire community. Surviving are his wife, Lola of the home; five sons, Jeff (Leesa) Thompson of Overland Park, KS, Jason Thompson of Higginsville, Vincent (Shiloh) Thompson of Higginsville, Matthew "Spud" (Monica) Hursman of Higginsville, and Tony Hursman of Nelson, MO; three daughters, Dana (Brad) Ottman of Westminster, CO, Penny (Kerry) Thompson of Grain Valley, MO and Dana (Danny) Long of Concordia, MO; one sister, Betty Glee Hayes of Slater, MO; twenty-five grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bob Thompson and one sister, Phyllis Schieszer. Benjamin "Benny Bob" Robert Lewis, 84 of Higginsville, Missouri passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2020, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg, Missouri. He was born Friday, May 1, 1936 in Corder, Missouri, and was the son of the late Leroy Lewis and the late Mary Katharine (Curtius) Lewis. He was the husband of the late Janet (Hilgedick) Lewis. Benny graduated from Higginsville High School - Class of 1954. Benny married Janet on August 14, 1955, and they enjoyed... 59 happy years together. Janet preceded him in death on August 23, 2014. At a young age Benny helped his parents with the family farm, which led to a lifelong career in row cropping and dairy farming. He was a member of the Corder Presbyterian Church and the Lafayette County Democrats Club. Benny was a proud member of the Shriner Scottish Rite, Eastern Star, and the Masonic Lodge. He was an active and dedicated Board Member of the Corder Calvary Cemetery. In his retirement Benny enjoyed fishing, hunting, and socializing with friends. It was a common site to drive by the family farm and see 10-15 trucks parked outside and see Benny Bob entertaining the guys with fun and laughter. Benny Bob will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the entire community. Surviving are one son, David (Kim) Lewis of Higginsville; two daughters, Margaret (Tim) Thurmon of Higginsville and Sara (Bob) Gibson of Higginsville; one brother, Lee (Liza) Lewis of Charlottesville, VA; ten grandchildren, Timothy Lewis, Emily Lewis, Matthew Gibson, Katie Gibson, Bryan Gibson (Janet Vega), Tim Gibson, Jeff (Mariah) Gibson, Brett (Britney) Gibson, Kerri Thurmon, Ashley (Mark) Renken, Trent Thurmon; 3 great-grandchildren, Parker Gibson, Nash Gibson, and Evan Renken. Mary Lytton Clement, 96 of Higginsville, MO, passed away on November 21, 2020 at Meyer Care Center. As a young child, Mary spent quite a bit of time at the soda fountain in the 19th and Main Huscher drug store which was located under her father’s doctor’s office. Mary graduated from Higginsville High School as Valedictorian on May 20, 1942. She attended Christian College in Columbia, MO (now Columbia College) and the University of Missouri, graduating in 1946 with a degree in education. It was during her first teaching assignment in Topeka, KS that she met her future husband, Charles B. Clement while he attended KU. After their wedding, they relocated to Higginsville and opened Clement’s Hardware Store. This store served the area community for 31 years. Mary kept the books for the business and was always ready to help when needed. Mary was extremely active in the local community service with many clubs. They include, in part, Chamber of Commerce, the former Downtown Merchants Association, Harvey Higgins Historical Society, Optimist Club, PEO, CMFA, Arts Advisory Board, Higginsville Jubilee Committee, Higginsville Country Fair Committee, Higginsville Federated Women’s Club, Puppeteers of America, and started the Band Boosters Club with Rosemary Zacha. Mary was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, taught Sunday school, and was involved in Girl Scout activities. She was a founding member of the Higginsville Theatre Company with Marge Stoecklin and Harri Huscher. She and Jack Hayslett produced puppet shows for many years. Mary was also a good program presenter and was a great reference to the past because of her age, experience, and knowledge. Mary and Charlie traveled the world with many trips to Europe and annual trips to the beautiful beaches of Mexico. Mary had as many international friends as she had friends in her hometown. Mary is survived by two daughters, Carol Rodriguez of Higginsville, Mary Susan (John) McCrae of Kansas City; one granddaughter, Allison McCrae; and a nephew, Dr. Walt Koppenbrink. She is preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Charles Clement. See more

He was born Wednesday, June 3, 1925 in Audubon, Iowa, and was the son of the late Walter Klever and the late Rosa (Wright) Klever. He was the husband of the late Iva Jean (Cole) Klever, marrying October 12, 1951. She preceded him in death on August 27, 2019. Arnold grew up on a farm in Iowa and graduated from Jessup High School in J...essup, Iowa. Arnold enlisted in the United States Army and served his country proudly. After serving his country he moved to Colorado and worked for Martin Missiles in Denver for 9 years. He and Iva Jean moved to Higginsville in 1969. He attended the Electronic Institute in Kansas City and took a position as a salesman, selling hearing aids. Arnold finished his last fifteen working years as a safety inspector for workman compensation firms. While in the Higginsville area, he was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church. In his free time, Arnold enjoyed their cabin at the lake, fishing, and relaxing on the pontoon boat. Arnold was known to spend a peaceful day working in the yard. He loved family gatherings and events. Family was everything to Arnold. He was especially joyful during the holidays when he was with family often. He will be sorely missed by family and all who came to know him. Surviving are one daughter, Susan Starke of Higginsville; two grandchildren, Bryan (Anna) Starke of Olathe, KS and Sabra (Bill) McDowell of Lawson, MO; five great-grandchildren, Brennan, Charlotte, Zoey, Avery, and Ethan. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Iva Jean Klever; one son, Daniel Klever; one sister, Irma Williams. Robert "Bob" Lee Soendker, 84 of Mayview, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at his home. He was born Tuesday, January 21, 1936 in Odessa, Missouri. He was the son of the late Wesley Soendker and the late Mary (Baker) Soendker. He was the husband of the late Arlene (Schumaker) Soendker. She preceded him in death on June 28, 1980. Bob left school early to help his father with the family farm. Helping on the family farm led to a lifelong passion for farming. ...He was at peace on the farm, whether it was working in the fields, with his horses or working on tractors. Bob enjoyed rebuilding antique tractors and displaying them in parades. Bob also enjoyed working with his horses. He had Clydesdales and Percherons. He rode in many parades and even in the American Royal Parade. When Bob wasn't on the farm he enjoyed going to country western dances with friends. He was a member of the Mount Tabor Methodist Church in Odessa. Surviving are his good friend and companion, Pat Tunnell of the home; three sons, Scott (Sally) Soendker of Windsor, MO, Michael Soendker of Mayview, MO and Jeffrey Soendker of Warsaw, MO; three brothers, Calvin (Jeanne) Soendker of Higginsville, MO, Larry (Linda) Soendker of Mayview, and Dennis (Monica) Soendker of Lexington, MO; two sisters, Esther (Kenneth) Dieckmann of Napoleon, MO and Janice (Richard) Jenkins of Lee's Summit, MO, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlene Soendker; four brothers, Wesley Soendker Jr., Carl Soendker, Lawrence Soendker, Delbert Soendker; two sisters, Wahneta Bell, Helen Diestelkamp; and one granddaughter.
