That means we are grabbing and downloading some of our favorite Post-It notes and spreading positivity across the entire district.... We encourage staff, students, and families to share positive compliments and thank you messages throughout the week and posting pictures of our Positive Post-It Week on social media platforms, including Twitter using @HMC1Proud and #HMC1Positive.
Congratulations to Kristi Howery, Truman Elementary Fifth Grade teacher, for being recognized as one of Arvest Bank’s We Heart Teachers awardees! Arvest Bank asked the community to nominate deserving teachers to win $500 for their classroom as part of their We Heart Teachers campaign. This campaign was designed to recognize, and provide support to, teachers throughout the Arvest footprint. This year, Arvest awarded a total of 157 $500 gifts to individual teachers to supp...ort classroom needs throughout Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Ms. Howery was one of those 157 honorees. It means a lot to me to win this award, said Ms. Howery. I know there are thousands of teachers out there working hard every day, especially right now, to do their best for their students. To know that someone nominated me, and that Arvest Bank felt I was deserving, makes me proud. This school year marks Ms. Howery’s first time back in the classroom as a teacher, having spent the past four years as an instructional coach. I really missed the classroom, said Ms. Howery. So this year I went back and I haven't regretted it, even in the virtual environment. I enjoy getting to know my students, watching them learn and grow, and I just love teaching them! Thank you for your continued dedication and support of your students, and making a difference in the classroom both big and small. We are #HMC1Proud to have you on our team!

United Way of Greater Kansas City and their partner organizations, Turn The Page KC and SchoolSmartKC, recognize that students’ school presence and engagement in the classroom is more important than ever. When students show up to learn, they are more likely to be able to stay on-track, stay engaged and meet major educational milestones. To help ensure that students remain engaged and connected in their virtual classrooms, and that parents have the resources to support that e...ngagement, United Way of Greater KC created educational videos to continue supporting families with this change. Check out their video below:
