June 10, 2020 To our Hope Leadership Academy Family: Hello HLA Family. As principal of HLA, I could not go without addressing the current events of our Nation. I want to start by saying that we have missed our families and students incredibly during this time and regretted to have ended a school year without physically saying goodbye. On that note, we look very forward to the Fall and our return to smiling faces and love from each and every one of you. ... We have been facing a very challenging time in our world, beginning with the global pandemic, and currently with several tragedies that we have experienced. By these tragedies, I am referring to the killings of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and most recently George Floyd. These have been very eye-opening and tragic situations that have caused me great emotional distress and concern for our community. As a community here at HLA, we recognize these occurrences as deplorable, inhumane and unacceptable. We will not stand for racism, prejudice, discrimination, nor injustice. We take the stand that we will not be silent as we navigate through these losses. We are outraged and realize that we have a difficult job to do. Our staff is committed to having the conversations and taking the actions to make change happen. We stand in support of the success of you and your families. We thank you for being a part of the HLA Family and we look forward to being in this fight together for the growth, safety, and success of our students! As a community, we stand together. Sincerely, Robert N. Milner Principal of Hope Leadership Academy

Sesame Street Town Hall, Saturday, 6/6 @ 9:00 am As anger and heartbreak have swept across America over the killing of yet another black man at the hands of police, CNN and "Sesame Street" are refocusing their second town hall to address racism. The 60-minute special "Coming Together: Standing Up to Racism. A CNN/Sesame Street Town Hall for Kids and Families" will air on Saturday, June 6, at 9 a.m. CST.... The show will talk to kids about racism, the recent nationwide protests, embracing diversity and being more empathetic and understanding. Big Bird will join CNN commentator Van Jones and CNN anchor and national correspondent Erica Hill to moderate the event. They will be joined by "Sesame Street" characters -- including Elmo, Abby Cadabby and Rosita -- and other experts answering questions submitted by families. See more

All, Mayor Lucas issued a stay at home order for Monday. Meal and learning packet distribution are essential so this order does not impact meal distribution or learning packet distribution. In addition the Mayor has announced the extension of school closure through April 24th. We WILL deliver on Monday! Robert N. Milner, Principal at Hope Leadership Academy

March 20, 2020 Hello parents and families of Hope Leadership Academy. This is your principal, Mr. Milner, with a few updates and announcements: If you have not yet been informed, HLA will be extending our break, due to the COVID-19, until April 3, 2020. We will be physically returning to school on Monday, April 6, 2020. However, beginning this Monday, we are expecting our scholars to begin completing the packets that were sent home before the break. It is very important... that all of those packets are completed as they will be a part of the completion for curriculum for our school year. Parents, please be sure to assist students with the completion of these assignments as needed. Also, this coming Monday, March 23rd, we anticipate the opportunity to provide meals for all of our scholars. You should have already been contacted, but we will be providing both breakfast and lunch for our scholars each day. If your scholar rides the bus, be prepared to receive the meals to your door between 11 am and 1 pm each day. Just be prepared to receive anytime during that window each day. If your scholar does not ride the bus, you can send someone to pick up the meal each day at the school/2800 E. Linwood Blvd. between 12 pm and 1 pm. They will be distributed through the parent pick-up route from the side door. These delivery and pick up methods will also be how we distribute additional packets and instructional materials for our students, as well as back snacks, so please be on the lookout. If for some reason your student did not receive a packet and they do not ride the bus, someone can come to the building to pick up that packet between 12 pm and 1 pm on Monday! As we deliver these materials to the homes, we are making every attempt to be safe during this time. We intend for our staff to keep a 6 feet distance from each person as they deliver. We will place both the meals and the instruction packets on the porch to be received and step away. If no one answers the door we will take the food and leave the instruction packets. Know that this is an attempt to be safe and not to be unloving. Also, please remind your children that although we miss them and love them, we will be unable to give hugs during this time. We want to keep everyone as safe as possible! I will inform you sometime next week about online resources that you may use with your students. Please continue to wash your hands and use sanitizer. Keep your social distances and be wise with your interactions. If you feel sick, get checked out as soon as possible. Thank you for being a part of our HLA family, we love you and look forward to seeing you soon! Sincerely, Robert N. Milner, Principal at Hope Leadership Academy
