Winter weather is around the corner, this is a good time to get your car ready for the winter. Here are 10 tips to help you get ready for the colder temps. 1. Check your coolant. The right 50/50 mixture can prevent your fluid from freezing. 2. Check your battery. In cold weather, your battery has to work harder to make the chemical reactions to make electricity. In the winter, battery failure can leave you in the cold.... 3. Fill your wiper fluid. This is a must to help you keep your window clear of ice, snow, salt and mud. Use freeze resistant wiper fluid. 4. Replace your wiper blades. Did you know that most wiper blade only last 6 months to a year? Consider getting heavy duty wiper blade for winter conditions. 5. Inspect or replace your tires. Worn tires are a serious hazard in winter conditions. All season tires and winter tires are designed to grip in cold conditions. 6. Check your tire pressure. Your tire pressure drrops about 1 PSI for every drop of 10 degrees. Check your tires side walls and owners manual for recommended tire pressure. 7. Change your oil. Cold weather thickens oil and reduces its ability to circulate. Some vehicles owners manual recommend a thinner oil in the winter. 8. Check your belts and hoses. Cold temps can weaken belts and hoses. Check for cracks, tears and other signs of wear and replace as needed. 9. Put together an emergency kit to carry in your cars. Concider equipping your car with blankets, flares, a jack, a first-aid-kit, flashligh, shovel, food, water and kitty litter or sand for traction if you get stuck. 10.
