As we near the 4th of July, we would like to remind citizens of ordinances related to the use of fireworks within the city. It is only legal to shoot fireworks ...from July 2nd to Midnight on the 4th of July inside the city limits. It is unlawful to shoot fireworks in the streets, alleyways, or parks or public property. It is also unlawful to shoot anything into the air that does not completely consume itself (example: bottle rockets.) If you have further questions please refer to the Higginsville City Ordinances 215.680-215.700 online at https://www.ecode360.com/HI332

Jeff Sanders faithfully put up the American flags around Mayview for holidays and community celebrations for years. Today, on the third anniversary of the line ...of duty accident that claimed his life, we put them up for him. Today we remember. Today we honor. Today we celebrate the life of our fallen hero. Please keep Jeff's family and fellow firefighters in your thoughts and prayers today. This evening we invite Jeff's family and friends to join us on the patio at the Old School Store & Bar for a "Heroes Happy Hour" from 6pm-8pm The Bar is serving a free-will donation meal while supplies last. All proceeds will go to Supporting Heroes-- an organization that honors the service and sacrifice of public safety heroes who gave their lives in the line of duty by caring for the loved ones they leave behind. The donation will be sent in memory of Firefighter Jeff Sanders. See more

A fine group of local heros ! The friendship and comradery we share is more valuable to this county than most citizens will ever know. It's always a pleasure working with other departments when the need arises.

Please, we implore the the community to not drive to our station if you are concerned about having COVID-19. It is much safer for all involved if you let us co...me to you. If you think you have it and have symptoms, call your physician. If you are in acute respiratory distress or short of breath, call 911. During this time EMS has continued to restrict access to the EMS facility. As a result we are not doing blood pressure checks and other non-emergent walk-in evaluations. If you feel you need an ambulance, please call 911 and we will come to you. Thank you for your support and understanding.

In May 2019, the City of Odessa notified the Mayview Fire Protection District (MFPD) that on June 1st, 2020, the Odessa Fire and Rescue Protection District (OFR...PD) would discontinue Emergency Medical Service (EMS) to a portion of the Mayview fire district previously served by Odessa’s ambulance for more than 25 years. Through a series of correspondence, the OFRPD proposed continuing service if the MFPD agreed to pay a fee of $2,000 per year, and in addition, stipulated that Odessa Fire would continue charging residents who live in the impacted area as non-residents for EMS service. The Mayview Fire Protection District was established by a vote of the people to provide fire protection service not EMS service. Furthermore, with one of the smallest operating budgets in the county, the MFPD Board of Directors opted to explore alternative EMS options for the constituents of their fire district impacted by Odessa’s discontinuation of service. As of May 18th, 2020, the Cities of Higginsville and Lexington passed ordinances to expand their existing EMS service coverage areas within the Mayview Fire Protection District. Beginning, May 31st, 2020 at 11:59pm, their respective EMS agencies will provide coverage to the impacted area (see map) previously served by Odessa. The residents of the impacted area will continue to be charged as non-residents by these entities as they always have. However, there are no additional fees involved in either agreement. The map below illustrates the impacted area. The lime green area will be covered by Higginsville EMS. The dark red area will be covered by Lexington EMS.
