Higginsville Country Fair 08.05.2021

Your 2021 Higginsville Country Fair planning committee met Monday, March 8th at 6 p.m. at Salem United Church of Christ. Higginsville Country Fair is scheduled for September 11th - September 18th Sincere thanks to Salem for allowing us to use their dining area so that we could begin the planning process in a safe environment.... Attending: June Howell, Sandy Starkebaum, Mark Hook, Cassi Noble, Bonnie Dickmeier, Denetta Amor, Clint Bedell, Doug Booker, Larry Smith, Dale Felder, Al Beth Rumsey and Teri Ray. Sending regrets to attend but will continue to serve as an event chair: Amanda Struchtemeyer, Heather Hoflander, Amanda Wentland, Jessica White, Jessica Johnson, Dan Rumsey and Barb Butler. Members present discussed a theme for Country Fair. With respect to our current health pandemic, members attending felt a congratulatory theme letting our essential workers, front-line workers, educator’s, business owners, and all who have navigated our new normal, know how much they are valued and appreciated. Each and every one of us has had to pivot and make changes to our daily lives. Collectively, we are moving forward. We are entertaining tag lines for our Country Fair theme. Please send your idea to Teri at [email protected]. Event Chairs have confirmed the following Country Fair events: September 11th Parks & Rec. Rodeo, Scarecrow Contest and Window Decorating Contest begin; September 12th Miss & Young Miss Higginsville, September 13th Chalk Drawing Contest; September 15th Fellowship in the Park; September 17th Youth Parade, Cake & Ice Cream Social, Friday evening entertainment; September 18th Vendors on Main, Heat & Hunger Walk/Run; Antique Tractor Display; Car Show, Main Stage entertainment, Big Parade, Flower Show, Art Show, Photo Show and Youth Activities. Country Fair requires many volunteers and financial support. To date, we are unable to move forward with the following events due to lack of volunteers: Flower Show and Baby Contest. The Taste of Higginsville is cancelled for 2021. Your Country Fair committee is open to additional attractions. However, volunteers and financial support are required to produce additional events. Preliminary plans are being discussed to host an all Alumni School Reunion. This is a fantastic idea to bring all previous graduates home during our Country Fair event. If you’d like to see this event happen, please contact Teri [email protected] or 660 584-3030. To produce Country Fair, funding required is approximately $11,000 - $12,000. If you are interested in sponsoring an event or general sponsorship, we’d love to hear from you! Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 12th 6 p.m. Salem United Church of Christ (15th & Main) please feel free to join us. We need you!

Higginsville Country Fair 26.02.2021

What a beautiful week this would be if only we were able to host our beloved Country Fair! I'm sure many of you are mourning its absence as much as your Country Fair Board of Director's. Following was issued on July 16th in regards to the cancellation of our 2020 Higginsville Country Fair. Let's hope for a fun and exciting 2021 Higginsville Country Fair "Due to the public health risks and uncertainties associated with COVID-19 and the financial hardship that COVID-19 has ...caused many area businesses and families who help sponsor our events, it is with great disappointment that the Higginsville Country Fair Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Higginsville Country Fair. The Board members appreciate your support and understanding as this decision did not come easily. The safety and well-being of our community must come first. Please know that we are committed to making the 2021 Higginsville Country Fair better than ever!" Press Release The Higginsville Country Fair Board of Directors met Thursday afternoon, and was unanimously in agreement to cancel the 2020 fair. The Country Fair Board consists of the chairpersons of each event, and the consensus was unanimous to cancel this year’s fair, Country Fair Chairman and Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Teri Ray said. We discussed the possibility of having a smaller fair with only some of the events taking place and only eliminating those that might carry the highest risk during this COVID-19 pandemic, but the thought was that the financial issues would also need to be addressed. Ray said that not only would sponsorships be down because of local businesses dealing with their own financial effects from the pandemic, holding the fair would also require additional expenses such as providing sanitation stations throughout the area. Another concern was money that would be lost in deposits and such should the fair be planned, but have to be cancelled within a few days or weeks of the event as the pandemic situation changes. In light of these main two issues addressing the risks of COVID-19 and keeping fairgoers as safe as possible, as well as the financial concerns -- the board voted to focus on the 2021 event rather than attempt to host an event this year, Ray said. Some events that are independent of the Country Fair, but held by other community groups during fair week, such as the rodeo, the car show and the princess pageant, will be addressed by those sponsoring organizations. We hope everyone understands that this decision was not made lightly or in haste, and was made with the community’s best interest at heart, Ray said. We are certainly looking forward to the 2021 Country Fair and will strive to make it the best one yet. Questions regarding the Country Fair may be directed to the Chamber of Commerce at 660-584-3030 or 816-565-0563.
