Fuzz and Fuzz sr. ( Bryan Johnson and Dale Johnson) are making it look easy on rt. A. With Thomas Family Herefords bulls they are suckling what appears to be 6 and 7 weights. There are way too many 3 and 4 weight straight angus calves being weaned around here. Our forefathers took this variety of heterosis for granted. Utilize the only free lunch in the business to your advantage!

Attn cattle folks: if you are enjoying record profits for the packers and bankruptcy numbers for those of us doing all the work then disregard this message. The NCBA and state assns, such as MO Cattleman’s, in conjunction have been taking our mandatory Checkoff dollars and using them to slit our throats. They squashed country of origin labeling, and enforcement of the packers and stockyards act with our Checkoff dollars recently. They have 30 years to lead us where we are today. Rcalf is the only organization that has our back, please take time to get on their website and read about our mission. At that point JOIN. We need numbers to fight this monster. NCBA gets over $50,000,000 of our checkoff dollars to use against us every year in addition to what the multinational corporate packers are paying them. Please join!!!!

New Hereford Man in Town written by Ben Thomas The first pic is of my sister Amy Thomas Larsen and Marlo, Celia, and Emmett Phillip Thomas. God blessed our family with Emmett Phillip on 12-19. His middle name is after my dad, and Emmett is from his great great grandfather Benjamin Emmett Thomas (known as Emmett). I am going to tell this story as I remember my grandpa / best of friends Richard Martin Thomas telling it to me. Emmett was born in northeast MO. His mother di...ed when Emmett and his brothers were young. His father remarried a woman who had children of her own. She didn’t care for Emmett and his brothers so they decided to bring them to the Brimson / forks of the river area and farm them out. It was implied to me they were given away to farm families who needed them to work. Emmett was approximately 8 years old when this happened. Grandpa explained to me that Emmett was a rounder in his adult years. The way I understood this was that he drank and didn’t act very respectable by that day’s standard. He met my great grandmother Una Johnson, who was the sister of Roy. Roy is my good friends Bryan Johnson, Tracy Johnson Simpson, Zach Harris, Duane Johnson’s great grandfather. Una let him know he would need to straighten up if he wanted to marry her. In that day and age postcards were used to send the message of special occasions. I put a pic of the postcard grandma Alice gave me of Emmett being baptized in the Thompson river in 1911. The last postcard pic is the marriage announcement for Emmett and Una. Tim Hanson and I were delivering some straw to Minerva Brown near Brimson 20 years ago and she informed me that she had something that might be of interest to me. It was this postcard stamped 1913. I had it blown up as a picture and gave it to Richard and Alice for Christmas that year. Upon opening that grandpa broke into tears. He told me it was the oldest picture he had seen of his father. From our family to yours We wish you a Merry Christmas!! See more

Our neighbor / friend / customer / hired man Noah Lewis took his senior pics with their bull they bought from us a few years ago. If he is as successful as he is ornery look out Trump! Hopefully we will be admiring pics of him on top of the podium at the State Wrestling Tournament in a few months.

This first calf heifer out of EFbeef A250 is doing a stellar job as we had hoped. We are proud to have 7 more full et siblings to breed this fall. We also have a nice yearling Bull from this flush that is in service.

Converter made his way back to the farm from Montana this week. ABS collected their goal and his semen will be available through them for spring breeding. His first crop is on the ground and they look sharp.

This is a really good explanation of why Vitaferm products work so well.

Fellow Americans, I need your help! In 2015, Congress repealed the COOL law - which stands for country of origin labeling - on your beef and pork products. Fore...ign beef producers and the big meat packers lobbied hard for the repeal, and our legislators folded. I know what you’re thinking. Why do you care what happens to a bunch of ranchers in middle America? Well, where is your meat coming from? Do you know? I’ll tell you where a lot of it is coming from: Argentina, Canada, Brazil, Australia, Japan - and other places. It’s not coming from the American rancher like it once did. Under regulations Trump inherited from the Obama Administration, the beef you find in a local grocery store can be labeled ‘Product of USA’ as long as it was packaged here. So it could have been born, raised and slaughtered virtually anywhere. Let’s say half a carcass of beef arrives from Uruguay. A U.S. packer can cut that carcass up in a U.S. packing plant, and label it Product of USA. Worse, if a packer unwraps the meat and simply rewraps it, it can be labeled that same Product of USA. So what can be done? With a stroke of his pen, President Trump has the power to mandate all meat is labeled with its country of origin. See, I don’t just believe - I KNOW the United States produces the best food, and the best beef, in the world. And every American has the right to know where their food comes from. If you still want to eat that foreign-raised stuff, go for it. But you should know what you’re getting. It’s as simple as that. Why the heck would you put mystery beef on your table? The American rancher has been squeezed, poked and prodded by the meat packing industry. They control the market. They control the price. They buy this cheap foreign beef, and your American ranchers are going under - and not because they can’t compete in quality, but because that can’t compete with mystery meat brought in from who knows where. We need to the attention of Donald J. Trump to make this change and fight for our AMERICAN ranchers!

Putting out mineral yesterday I ran into this 1st calf heifer pair. These cattle have had nothing other than mineral and scorched pasture this summer. Hereford cattle were developed to conquer the harshest environments. The feed companies would love to sell you any variety of supplement you could want. However as we are all realizing finances are tight in this drought. We would like to invite you over to look at some drought resistant seedstock. This feed efficiency is one of three traits that we believe will allow you to profit and truly manage your herd. Without feed efficiency, docility and fertility you will do a lot of tail chasing in this business.

Thomas Family Herefords 07.06.2020

We believe feed efficiency to be an under respected trait that CAN pay you back every day.
