The dreary weather didn’t dampen the mood at this morning’s celebration of the grand opening of Arc on Armour. Formerly offices for the American Red Cross, this new apartment development continues Silliman Group’s + Mac Properties Kansas City's revitalization of Armour Boulevard. Thank you to all who celebrated with us, including Tom Porto, Chairman of the PIEA; Councilwoman Katheryn Shields; Mayor Quinton Lucas; and our partners Centric and Taliaferro & Browne, Inc. The opening of Helix’s latest adaptive reuse project comes on the heels of a report from national apartment service and research group RENTCafé, which ranked Kansas City in the top 10 of cities across the country for apartment conversions. Read more about the report and a few of our other multifamily renovation projects in our blog: https://bit.ly/3kfjgrm

Last night, our team was thrilled to receive a Merit Award from the AIA Central States Region Design Awards for 19 Main at Corrigan Station. Congratulations to our partners, including Copaken Brooks and 3D Development. We are so proud of this example of urban placemaking and vitality. "This spec office was appreciated for its connection to the urban context, both inside and out. Built without a specific user in mind, the diversity of experiences helps to blur the boundaries between public and private." Jury comments Thank you to AIA Iowa for hosting last night's celebration of exemplary design throughout our region. Photo by Michael Robinson Photography LLC.

Our partnership with Girl Scouts of NE Kansas & NW Missouri has resulted in award-winning design and meaningful opportunities to engage with Girl Scouts throughout the metro. Like most things, our annual outreach activity for the Girl Scouts looked a little different this year. We developed the Helix Architecture Scavenger Hunt to encourage the Girl Scouts to get outside, stay socially distant, and to learn about Kansas City’s robust architecture community. It also aligns with the Girl Scouts’ value of confidence, as it affirms the value in their individual perspectives, observations, and opinions about the world around them.

Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences's new College of Dental Medicine in Joplin, MO was well into the design process when the pandemic hit. University leaders challenged us and our partners at SmithGroup to reevaluate our work and identify how we can create a space supportive of state-of-the-art education in ways that align with new safety precautions and procedures, which may last well beyond the immediate future. The highly specialized nature of dentistry and KCU’s reputation for innovative educational environments required a balance between technical analysis and aspirational design.

Breathing new life into historic buildings, particularly in the urban core, has been a deeply rooted passion of ours since the very beginning. We are excited to be a part of this project and add to the growing ranks of multifamily developments along Troost. ICYMI: Historic Hyde Park hotel may become affordable housing

Congratulations to architect Mike Schwaller, AIA, for being selected to participate in this year’s AIA Kansas City Pillars Leadership program. Learn a little more about Mike on our blog and a little something else from an unexpected teacher. There’s something special about the worldliness of our city that’s rooted in midwestern values and the stark landscape of the plains; and there’s no other place I’d rather be a designer. #kansascity #architectureanddesign #kansascitydesign #pillars #leadership

ICYMI: Mac Properties Kansas City, Helix power on construction for project at Armour + Troost intersection "As we think about the history of Troost as a dividing line, we want to create a place where people from east and west of Troost, and the north and south of Kansas City, come together to live and play.
