The post-sale fog has finally lifted after an amazing weekend on The Hill! By all accounts, the HH Spring Showcase was a huge success and there are many folks to thank! With Colonel Kevin Wendt on the block and Blaine Evans, Clay Zwilling & Todd Kennedy in the ring, buyers from 18 states bought 166 showpigs for an average of $2,344. Over 40 head sold online via CCI.live & Kennedy Ventures, several were bought by bidders who were here for the preview Saturday night but couldn...’t stay for the auction on Sunday. Very grateful to the guest consignors who offered a tremendous group of pigs, many of which were the very essence of #HHInfluence and averaged over $3,300. The weekend was busy and would not have been possible without the help of family and friends. So many of you went above and beyond in your efforts to pitch in and make it all happen. The food was amazing and we owe a special thanks to Landry for his cajun cooking efforts and the Deters' & Feldman crew for delivering on high expectations for catfish. BIG things are on the horizon for Adam and we're excited to say that we heard it here first! One year ago, the Monday after the Spring Showcase was when the world as we knew it came to a screeching halt. Now, twelve months later, we are so thankful that families are still choosing to invest their time and resources in the #stockshowlife and are committed to the junior livestock experience for their kids. The uncertainty of 2020 seems to have fueled the fire for many in 2021 and we are thrilled that so many joined us on the Hill for the Spring Showcase! SALE DAY!!! Industry-wide, demand for show gilts is at an all-time high and we've experienced it first hand this week. Many have traveled to the farm to study and for those who couldn't get here, the most asked question is something like, "Which gilt(s) can we show on our circuit, show at the Expo, get to our state fair and keep for a sow when the summer is over?" That's all?! In a perfect world, we'd love to tell you that those things happen on a regular basis, but in rea...lity, if you do this long enough you'll come to realize that it takes a unicorn to achieve all of that. But just because it seems impossible doesn't mean we aren't still trying! We purchased JOJO from the Fontenot crew at Perfect Timing in 2019. His first crop was well received in the fall and they're really starting to surface in the show ring in the Southwest. He's an impressive herd boar with crazy good fertility and the right pieces and parts for the kind of females we like to keep. If you study the sale roster you'll notice he got a big chance in this group and he didn't disappoint. There are lots of gilt prospects in this offering that can be very competitive this summer - at all levels - and most should have the genetic capability to contribute to anyone's showpig program in the future. We've never experienced staying power quite like 225-6!! JoJo was the sire of choice this time and the mating sure didn't disappoint. We didn't get as many raised this time but quality is well above par!
