Let's get it started and talk FUN TEAM RELAY! We are SOOOO excited to announce our relay legs and relay transition point sponsors this year! We have fun, exciting, (and practical) relay transition points for 2021! Look at this line-up for music, fun, refreshments, festivities, and places to cheer! Leg 1 - 3.8 miles from Start (Boone County History & Culture Center) to Veterans United Home Loans (southernmost entrance off Providence after turning from St. Farm Pkwy)... Leg 2 - 7.7 miles from VU to Cooper's Landing Riverside Resort & Marina. Leg 3 - 6.9 miles (and Easley Hill) from Cooper's Landing to Pierpont General Store. Announcing a new award for the HOA marathon in 2021! We are proud to honor past HOA race director and continued supporter, Joe Duncan with the . . . (drum roll please) the . . . "AVERAGE JOE" Award! The Average Joe Award will be given to the M/F who comes closest to the median time, either above or below, or perhaps, having the exact time as the median. If there is a tie, the award goes to the slowest. Joe Duncan was Race Director of HOA for 47 years and an average run...ner! Joe's first race of any kind, at age 32 was the 1966 HOA, the 7th Annual, with some 2 and a half weeks of "training." Joe has been in 855 races all total. He ran 9 HOAs, and never ran faster than the median. Joe notes that "median" is not "average", but he thinks the "Average Joe Award" sounds better than the "Mediocre Joe Award"! Joe Duncan is listed in Road Race Management's all time longest serving race directors and as of 2020, held the position of 3rd longest in that list.
