Through King Arthur Baking’s Bake for Good outreach program, Sarah Sullins, a Family and Consumer Science teacher at Central High School, provided baking kits for 82 students to bake at home during virtual learning. Students who received a baking kit learned how to make yeast dough, then went to work on making their dough into cinnamon rolls, pizza, dinner rolls, challah bread, garlic knots, butter braids, or pretzels. Check out some of their creations below, and click here to read the full article: https://bit.ly/2Y32mm4
So proud of this HSD family's work in the community!
To celebrate the extraordinary work of our seniors, we are seeking high-resolution photos of seniors engaging in activities related to school. The photos will be shared in the district’s monthly newsletter and through other district communication channels. Additionally, the photos will be used to create a gallery that will be shared to celebrate the Class of 2021. Photos can be emailed to [email protected] throughout the 2020-2021 school year. Yasmine submitted the collage below of her senior photos.

Thank you to all who submitted Halloween photos! It was a very difficult decision to choose the winners because we had great submissions. The winners are featured as the district's Facebook and Instagram profile pictures for the Halloween weekend. We hope everyone has a fun and safe weekend!
Ms. Brewer has a Bad Case of Stripes and is our employee winner for the HSD Halloween Costume Contest! Miss Brewer is using her costume to teach internal and external character traits for reading and descriptive writing. She also uses her costume and this book in social skills class to address the Zones of Regulation and allowing students to compare themselves to the next. Have you read the book A Bad Case of Stripes?
Send us your Halloween photo by 2 p.m. today to [email protected]!
Reminder: Friday is the deadline for Pre-K and K families to switch to half-day virtual school. On Tuesday, October 20, the Board of Education approved an option for early childhood and kindergarten students to change to half-day virtual instruction. This option is available to all early childhood and kindergarten students while the district is 100% virtual. Early childhood and kindergarten parents can select half-day virtual instruction in the Parent Portal from Friday, Octo...ber 23, until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30. The change can be made through the Student 360 Parent Portal on the district website or through the Tyler SIS Student 360 mobile app. To make a selection, parents can login to the Parent Portal and click on the banner indicating that there are required documents to be completed. When prompted, parents can click on the form and make the desired selections. As a reminder, families that selected the 100% virtual instruction model over the summer will remain in that model for the duration of the school year. Additionally, 100% virtual students who select the half-day option will remain half-day for the duration of the school year. If the district implements a hybrid model of instruction this school year, it is not anticipated that the half-day option will be available for the families that participate in that model of instruction. Any information regarding a potential transition to hybrid will be shared at a later date. This offering is dependent upon approval of a waiver from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Additionally, the change to half-day virtual instruction will not be immediate due to scheduling considerations. Depending on how many families make the aforementioned changes, student and teacher class assignments may change.
Reminder: There is no school on Tuesday, Nov. 3 due to the election.
