While the Board candidate election is top of mind, let’s not forget to help those that serve and protect us as well. While you are voting April 6th, be sure to vote Yes to the Boone County Fire District Bond Issue.

Student Achievment... Question #10. What, do you feel, should be the extent of offerings a school district our size should offer to its students? Explain your reasonings. Answer: ... Our district offers a wide variety of offering to its students. I believe to that we must prepare our children for the realities of workplace. Hallsville has high expectations for students and their achievement. This is in part due to the college prep, career readiness and vocation programs that we offer. The district should and does make these offerings a priority. We should offer as many opportunities to our students to continue their success. Whether that is college prep/vocational courses and programs or extracurricular activities. Question #11. How should the district’s curriculum be split between college prep and vocational courses or programs? Answer: I believe that we must prepare our children for the realities of the workplace. Hallsville has high expectations for students and their achievement. This is in part due to the college prep, career readiness and vocation programs that we offer. The district should and does make these offerings a priority at our secondary levels. Both college prep and vocational are often pitted-against each other, but there shouldn't be tension here. All college prep and vocational students will have the same challenges in the workforce -- whether it be needing to be literate in their professions or being able to deal with adversity of a difficult boss. Question #16. Do you feel student performance is best measured by proficiency or growth? Please explain your thoughts. Answer: Proficiency is the goal, growth is a must, both are equally important when measuring student performance and success. It is so important to ensure that students are understanding material and are proficient but I believe growth is just as important. If we measure how far a student has come this can help build confidence and show the true progress of a student. It is important to measure an accurate record of a student’s career. Whether that is being proficient and understanding material or showing year over year their growth and progression in an area(s).
