Meetings dates have changed and will be held starting Saturday, March 20 at 2 p.m. at the library. If you would like to become a member our dues are only $20.00 and you get a newsletter 4 times a year along with other items. We are a non-profit organization which means we receive no local, state or federal money. All of our incomes comes from dues, donations and the sale of books that the library has put together. We will be looking forward to seeing some of you. Masks will be required to enter the library.

The Harrison County Genealogy library is getting ready to re-open after being closed for several months due to the pandemic. We will open Tuesday, March 2 from 8-3, Thursday, March 4 from 1-5 and Saturday, March 6 from 2-4. We will then be open every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. We will also open on other days by appointment if you will call 660-425-6535. The library will be working on a couple of projects this year, 175th anniversary of Bethany and Harrison County boo...k and a recipe book. If you have any old pictures of towns around the bounty that you would like to have put in the book, we would be glad to copy them and give them back to you. Also we looking for old family recipes with a short history of the person who had the original recipe. The library has lots of obituaries and we constantly working on them as well as history of Harrison County; including pictures and memorabilia. We are always looking for new members to help with "Preserving the History of Harrison County.

You thinking about Christmas shopping on this snowy day. We have some books for those that like genealogy. We have Known Burials III -- this is a hard back book. The information starts on July 18, 2003 and goes to April 20, 2013. We are selling this book for only $25.00 and will be glad to ship. There are a limited number of these books left (2) Harrison County in Pictures -- hard back book and sells for $25.00 (3) 100 Best Recipes -- this is a copy of the 1968 book that was done for the New Hampton Centennial. This is a soft cover book and sell for $7.50. If you are interested let the library know and we will get them to you.

We held our first meeting at the Genealogy Library since last March. We had a small crowd, but a nice program from Greg Hagan. We voted to retain the same officers for 2021. We also voted to move our meeting date to the second Saturday starting in March 2021. We will meet at 2 p.m. in the afternoon. The group is going to continue working on the book for the 175th anniversary and are also looking at doing a cookbook. We are asking that people submit one or two recipes along with a short bio of who and where the recipe came from. We are still scheduling people to the library, but will not have regularly scheduled hours until spring. Be sure and mask up, we want to see you all in the spring. Have a safe Thanksgiving and a wonderful Christmas. 2021 will surely be better!!!!!!!!

Well since the number of cases of corona are rising in Harrison County we have made the decision to stop have regular hours. We will only open by appointment only. Sorry for the inconvenience this may cause, but we feel it is for the best.

NOTICE!!! The executive board met this evening, June 30 and decided to reopen the Genealogy Library on July 7. We will be starting some new hours: Tuesday 8-12, Thursday 1-5 and Saturday 2-4. Masks will be required at the library and there will be no public restroom. We also decided to cancel all monthly meetings for the forseeable future. Hopefully in time we can get back to our regular schedule of monthly meetings. We will be looking forward to seeing those that are interested in their ancestry and the history of Harrison County.

The Executive Board met yesterday and decided that we would not re-open the Genealogy Library at this time. We will open by appointment only. You can contact us for an appointment by calling 660-425-6535. We will re-evaluate this policy on July 1. Thanks for your understanding and please stay safe!!!!!

With all that is going on the library will be following the lead of the local school district (South Harrison). The library will close on Wednesday, March 18 until further notice. Everyone please stay safe!!!!

The library is beginning to work on a book to honor the 175th birthday of Bethany and Harrison County. If you have any old pictures of towns that were in the county we would love to put them in our book. We would be glad to copy them and then return them to the owner. If you have any, please contact the library.

We are back to work at the Genealogy Library. This is our first day open and beginning our summer hours. We are open Tuesday 1-5, Thursday 1-5 and Saturday 2-4. Other times by appointment or call 660-425-6535.

As we are getting ready to celebrate the 175th birthday and Bethany and Harrison County. The Genealogy society is getting ready to create a box in honor the 175th birthday. If anyone has any old pictures that they would be will be share, please let us know. The celebration will be held the 26 & 27 of September.

Our final meeting of 2019 will be Monday, November 4 at 6 p.m. We will be electing officers for 2020 and we will have a big surprise for all of those that attend the meeting. Hope to see you all Monday night,.

We held our October monthly meeting on October 7 at 6 p.m. We did not have a program, but did our business meeting and then just set an visited. It was very nice and relaxing. We voted to raise dues to $20.00 per person starting in January. Due to the cost of everything going up, we felt we had held our dues at $10.00 for as long as we could. We also voted to close again during December, January and February to help save money on heating costs. We also voted to have monthly meetings every other month as we do not have a lot of business and it is getting harder to find guest speakers. We will meeting during the months of March, May, July, September and October. We will be voting on officers at our November meeting.

Monday, October 7 at 6 p.m. will be our meeting at the Genealogy Library. No program is planned we will have a working meeting.
