The biggest misconception is that you need a French drain. STOP being taken advantage of. You more than likely do NOT need one and it’s probably not the proper fix your you problem. It takes barely any skill to put in a French drain as long as the pipe moves the water from one end to the other that’s all you have to do there’s no thought involved in a French drain. Here is a prime example of why we want to educate contractors and homeowners on best practices and be a resource for learning. We got called out on this job because the basement flooded through an egress window due to no drain being installed. We dug down 3ft and still never found a drain in this window well we installed a 4in pvc drain 2 ft below the window and ran it out into the yard ensuring proper slope throughout with our laser. Being that PVC pipes are made to be burie...d there is no concern of it collapsing and it’s completely smooth inside providing unobstructed flow unlike corrugated pipes that can crush when stepped on and has ridges that can become clogged up over time. Before we covered the pipe up we installed a grate and under the grate we installed a fabric liner to ensure no debris can enter the pipe and it stays open and flowing for years to come.
