12.13.20 "A Weary Heart Rejoices" Message has been posted on Youtube along with this weekly reflection and devotion questions. This coming Sunday the theme is "The Thrill of Hope."
Dec. 15, 2020 Joy Unto Us Today’s song is a contemporary montage using the beloved hymn, Joy To The World. It emphasizes the great joy that Christ's birth brought to the world. Prior to that ‘silent night’ when Christ was born, the hearts of the Israelites had yearned for God to reveal Himself personally. At last it happened and God answered their prayer; "the Word became flesh and dwelt among us" (John 1). How might we too yearn for God to be revealed yet again? W...hat does it mean for you to know that Jesus is God in Flesh (Incarnate) and dwelt among us? After Jesus death and resurrection, he promised to be with us always through the gift of the Holy Spirit. What might that mean for you today to know that Jesus still dwells with us, among us? Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. . . . Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together before the LORD; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity. Ps 98.4-9. See more
Dec. 14, 2020 O Holy Night This time of year, is a great time to reflect on the birth of Christ, and to remember that God stepped into our world to save us. But context is important. The beginning of this story is fruitless without the end of the story. To fully measure the impact of Christ’s birth, we must consider the power in His death and resurrection. This truth can be found in these two lines from today’s song, Long lay the world in sin and error pining, till ...he appear’d and the soul felt it’s worth. This is a powerful reminder of the Gospel. We are powerless to free ourselves from the bondage of sin which separates us from God. But there is promise. In Christ, God demonstrates how much we are worth. Spoiler alert: it is a lot. Today read Isaiah 54 and Luke 23:1-49 1. How can you celebrate Christmas 365 days a year, not only this month? 2. The cradle was a journey to the cross and the tomb. Why is it important to remember all three this time of year? 3. In you own words, how much is your soul worth? This week, fall on your knee or wave your hand in halleluiahs, as you behold Christ the Lord. May you be blessed with the thrill of hope. See more
