As cold weather approaches, don’t let Mother Nature catch you off guard. Hundreds of Americans are injured or killed each winter due to car accidents on slick roads and by home fires caused by improper use of heaters. In addition, winter storms create a higher risk of hypothermia, frostbite, carbon monoxide poisoning, and heart attacks due to overexertion. If you’re at home and the power goes out, please know we will restore power as safely and efficiently as possible. Do not turn on the stove for heat; it is not safe. Instead, use blankets, sleeping bags and warm winter coats. Be safe, be prepared!

Fluctuating winter temperatures, snow, and wind can make driving dangerous. You should always carry an emergency kit in your vehicle. Your kit should include a flashlight, batteries, phone charger, ice scraper, and blankets. If your vehicle comes in contact with a power line/pole, call 911, do not get out. Wait for utility personnel to de-energize the line. If you smell gas or if there is a fire, exit your car with a solid jump landing on both feet (but don’t touch the car at the same time) and DO NOT WALK, but hop away.
