Today in farm dog school we learned about gardening.
UPDATE: Our last little guy has been reserved! If you are interested in getting on our fall 2021 puppy waitlist, please go ahead and fill out an application on GoodDog.com. Thank you to each and every family who has opened up their homes and farms to our dogs!
We had some special visitors today to help socialize the puppies!! It was almost too cute to handle but somehow we managed.
We are so excited to have wrapped up our puppy selection with their new families for this litter. We still have one male Pyrenees puppy left for reservation and this guy is it! He is bold, sweet and friendly and would make a great companion or livestock guardian. If you are interested in bringing him home, please visit our GTF page on GoodDog.com to apply! UPDATE: RESERVED
Sound on for cute puppy noises!! We are delighted with how this litter is developing. We have ONE male puppy left for reservation, please visit our GTF page on GoodDog.com to apply!
One of the main purposes of all of our coppice is to sequester carbon. And one method we want to use is Biochar. This first batch was a test run to see how reusing our old metal bathtub as a DIY kontiki kiln would work. And it worked great! About 6 cubic foot of biochar in about an hour an a half from our willow coppice which we about tripled in plantings this year. Next year we will double the willow again. This biochar was spread out in Paddock #7.
Mamas and babies
That sure beats hefting around bags! It’s going to be awhile before we quit being impressed with how much nicer this has made our lives around here !
We want to give a big thank you to everyone who helped us get our new bulk bin moved onto its base yesterday - Mrs. Green Thicket’s siblings, Kade and Klee, Klee’s boyfriend Isaac, and our friends and neighbors, the Millsap family, from Millsap Farm! We appreciate you! We also appreciate that we will no longer have to make weekly runs to the feed store and unload thousands of pounds of bagged feed by hand.
Our Great Pyrenees puppies are 1 week old today! We are so excited for them to open their eyes so we can bring them outside to play with us and explore the farm. We have 4 males available for reservation. Please visit our Green Thicket Farm page on GoodDog.com for pricing and other info, and to fill out an application!
The cutest puppy pile Would 10/10 sleep in. Four of our male Great Pyrenees puppies are still available for reservation to the right home or farm, please visit our GTF page on GoodDog.com for more information and to apply!
Have you reserved a whole or half pasture raised hog from us yet? This is a cost effective way for you to fill your freezer with excellent quality pork! Read below for more info. We only have a couple of hogs left for each processing date!
The pollarded willows became weeping willows under all the ice today.
Dottie, Donut, and two feeder gilts enjoying running around in the snow and harassing Mr. Green Thickets wheel barrow while he gets everyone else some alfalfa hay. It’s much more interesting once it’s in the wheel barrow .
Even Pants our boar comes running for food when called.
Spot the pastured pigs!
Some of our piggos out in the snow yesterday on their way to the feed. We love giving our pigs a happy life being pigs.
Today was weaning day for our last 2 fall litters, and we wound up having 5 feeder barrows over what we have saved back to finish on our farm. If you or someone you know is interested in raising their own pork and want to know what the IPP hype is about send us a message to get your name on these, or on our spring waitlist for both registered breeders and feeders!
Willow is excited to announce that she and Griffin are expecting a litter of Great Pyrenees puppies at the end of March! We are just as thrilled as she is! Both of our puppy parents are AKC registered and have OFA certified hips, and have had genetic testing. We pride ourselves on healthy parents and healthy puppies that are well balanced and socialized, have basic training and are set up for success when they leave our little farm! If you are interested in adding a Gre...at Pyrenees puppy to your farm or home, please visit our page on GoodDog for additional information or to apply! https://www.gooddog.com/breede/green-thicket-farm-missouri *Please note that if you comment or DM us any puppy related questions we will direct you to GoodDog - this platform allows us to do quality vetting of potential owners, keep our waitlist organized and to develop a more personal and professional relationship with our puppy families than social media! *Also please note that an application is not a guarantee you will receive a puppy from us. We work hard to make sure placement is successful on both ends and as such we reserve the right to turn down applications that may not be the right fit for one of our puppies.
One of our little guys up in WI, he sure is lucky!
Thank you @alexapoindexter for gate side drop of acorns! All of our piggies appreciate them!!!
We absolutely love when people love the piglets they get from us!
Mr. Green Thicket finished his last semester at OTC and graduated with a degree in General Agriculture!
We are loving the updated puppy pictures we’ve been getting from both of our litters! We just love the Great Pyrenees breed and couldn’t be more pleased with Willow and Griffin’s kids. We have had a few people reach out to inquire about our Great Pyrenees puppies - if you are interested in a puppy from our planned 2021 litter, please visit our Green Thicket Farm page on GoodDog.com to fill out an application! We do our entire application, vetting, waitlist and payment process through Good Dog, so if you call, email or FB message we will direct you there!
Donut and Dottie are getting along well it seems. Dottie is our newest gilt from @lunaacresks , and we just love her. Our herd is making some great progress towards where we want them to be.
Donut sure loves getting scratches and apples.
On our way to swap piglets for breeder pairs. We are so excited that we are able to work with @lunaacresks to bring our customers the easiest way to get into this awesome breed!
Got to start ‘em young. Here’s Donut and one of our puppies getting to know each other! Part of having both livestock and livestock guardian dogs is training the stock - not just the pup! It’s only fair to allow them both to get acclimated to each other - we like to start this process in a very controlled fashion from behind a fence to set everyone up for success.
Now that we’ve got your attention with this adorable Great Pyrenees puppy - don’t forget to VOTE today, friends!!
If you are interested in raising your own pork, having us raise it for you, or even getting breeding quality IPPs to start or expand your herd, you are in luck! We have just a few out of our 41 piglets left available after working through our waitlist. Message us for details!
Our pigs sure love these pumpkins! Big shout out to our neighbors who brought us a truck bed full! Keep them coming folks!! They also love acorns, walnuts, and chestnuts if you are cleaning those up out of your yard!
Our first pumpkin! Thank you Lori Willard!
Meet Donut our newest breeder gilt! She just traveled all the way from Oregon! We can’t wait till next fall when we get to see what beautiful little piglets she will have for us!
With Halloween on Saturday, pumpkin season is nearly over! Our pigs would love to eat your leftovers! We are accepting pumpkin donations by our front gate. With COVID and our busy schedules we aren’t available for tours if you drop one off, but we will take pics and videos of the pigs enjoying them for our social media!! *Please make sure to remove all candles. We cannot accept pumpkins with paint or glitter for the health and safety of the pigs. Contact free drop offs only, we aren’t picking up this year. If you do drop off a pumpkin please shoot us a message so that we can give you a shout out on our page!
