Good morning, Kansas City! We’ve been working hard and putting our creativity to good use during these challenging times. Two of our clinicians, Ashley Subuh and Samantha Donahoo, have created groups to offer to the community. 1. Girls Therapy Club. A subscription box and virtual group therapy club for girls in grades 4 and 5. Although, there’s already been interest from parents of kids in 3rd and 6th grades as well so don’t hesitate to refer those age ranges, too. We’ll see... who all is interested and create groups from there! For Missouri residents only. 2. Start Anywhere. This is a virtual therapy group aimed at the population who just graduated high school/starting college who didn’t get to experiences those really important transitions the way they had expected. For Kansas and Missouri residents. There are videos for each group in the comments. Check them out!
Dear friends, specifically white friends, please take 10 minutes to listen to this. And share. These moments matter and we need to make sure we don't miss them and cause further injury. While this video was directed at white pastors, it’s a really useful perspective for any white person (regardless of religious standing) to hold while navigating conversations with other white people. Understanding trauma is crucial. While we work to create change and construct new systems that are actually fair, just, and equitable for everyone, we must also make sure that we are not reinforcing and deepening the trauma that people of color in America experience. #blacklivesmatter #traumainformedcare #GeorgeFloyd
Looking forward to ending the week with some laughs and new friends. Hope you can hop on at 3pm and join us.

Have you all seen this mini series done by BrianJames McMahon on Navigating Pain? This is a big topic for us! At Great Oaks, we are of the belief that we are only able to help others navigate their pain because we’re doing the work ourselves as well https://open.spotify.com/episode/0mab0CoomjwKqSfuTQP0Rx
