4 years ago our friend Wesly Kuo walked through our doors. It’s humbling to us to see such top caliber of people exist in this world. Wes has done nothing but give to our academy since he started training with us. He has made us all better for sharing our mats. Thank you for helping us build a strong team here and safe travels in all you do in life. Which will undoubtedly be of the upmost excellence.

Activities and sports like Hockey, Baseball, Soccer, Gymnastics, Girl/Boy Scouts etc... are all great hobby’s and pass time activities and I let my kids choose ...whatever activities they want. I categorize swimming lessons differently; swimming is a life skill and non-negotiable in my house. Sooner or later my children will be exposed to water, (be it a pool, lake, river or ocean) and not having basic swimming skills and confidence around the water will hold them back and could be potentially fatal. They don’t need to be Olympic swimmers but they need enough basic skills to tread water and survive but ideally are competent enough that they don’t have to be nervous or fearful around water. Now apply that same filter to Jiu Jitsu. It’s a great sport, with all the benefits of traditional sports, but it also teaches self defence which is an essential life skill. In your child’s lifetime, they will almost certainly face the threat of physical violence (often unavoidably and through no fault of their own). When you are attacked, just like in the water, it doesn’t matter how hard you try, without proper training and technique you will panic, thrash & most likely drown. We put our kids in swimming lessons to prepare them, so they can be in the water without fear and tread water if they get in over their heads. The day your child gets confronted by a bully ask yourself; have you given them the tools & confidence to stay calm, protect themselves and survive or have they been thrown in the deep end to fend for themselves? Good evening, We wanted to let every know that we will be having some pre orders of merchandise coming soon. As everyone knows we have officially become Gracie Humaitá Joplin. In doing so we have adopted the tradition of only white and blue Gis. We are looking to completely eliminate all other colors in our academy. These two colors specifically will be the only color gis allowed on our mats. We will be giving a $40 credit towards the purchase of a new gi with patches if you ...turn in your old Gi of another color.(we will donate them) You can also purchase your own Gi as long as it’s either of these colors. You will have to have them patched up. I’ll be keeping a stock at the academy of patches so we will always have them. Our NoGi classes when we start them will also have a dress code. We will be using these rashguards and black shorts. As always everyone’s Is always welcomed on our mats. Thanks for all your support thus far and we look to continue growing with this community.

Meet Bryan Feagan. Bryan has been training with us for about 3 years now and is a pillar in our kids program. He’s committed and patient. He’s a great teammate and training partner. He also decided to compete and put it on the line yesterday.. With a very impressive performance for gold with two submissions on the way. Congratulations on your success and all your support. Well done to our guy Barrett Saterlee! Securing a second place medal amongst some of the big boys in Arkansas. He’s been puttin in some work lately with our own Gregory Winterhalter and it shows in your jiu jitsu. A couple of hard fought matches and a dominant performance! Great job!!!

Congratulations to these Babcock brothers. These guys have been training for a couple years now and decided to compete. It’s always exciting when our students decide to put it on the line in competition. They both performed well Adam hitting a masssive takedown and Zack securing gold with an impressive Ezekiel finish on his first match. Great job gentlemen. We are honored to have you on our team.

This has been a long time coming for us. We are excited to announce the we have been accepted to the Gracie Humaitá Association! This has always been our goal and we will always try to bridge the gap between people’s natural ability to defend themselves and the methodological approach. Gracie jiu jitsu is not a way to fight but rather a way to defend yourself. Royler Gracie says learn how to defend yourself first and the knowledge of how to fight will follow ... Holiday schedule: Tonight the 24th all classes canceled. The 25th no open mat.... Sunday the 27th team training 8am is on. The 28th and 29th all classes are on.
