What is gear effect? Nick Clearwater explains gear effect which is the spin created when the center of gravity of the clubhead and center of gravity of the golf ball are not aligned at impact. When this occurs the clubhead and ball will rotate opposite directions. The amount of spin is dependent on clubhead speed, strike relative to the center of gravity and MOI (moment of inertia).
