The Lorraine Motel in Memphis, TN, room 306. The place where Martin Luther King Jr. was shot. The Lorraine Motel is now the National Civil Rights Museum and is a must-see tour if you find yourself in Memphis. An interactive tour that puts you, literally, in the seat of Rosa Parks with an intense simulated pounding on the back of the seat...pick up the phone and listen in on the conversation from 1963 between President Kennedy and Deputy Attorney General Nicholas Katzenbach in regards to forcing Governor George Wallace of Alabama to allow two African-American students to register at the University of Alabama while he barricades the entrance. The tour is so informative, and there is so much to learn, it takes a bit of time to get through, but well worth it and educational.
