A message from Christy Moreno: I hope everyone is doing well. For those I haven't met yet, I am Christy Moreno, Bilingual Director of Advocacy for the MCPSA. Community Outreach is one of the areas I'm responsible for and my mission is to help us build a strong and vibrant MO Charter School Community. That includes leaders, educators, parents, caregivers and all charter public school allies. Our advocacy focus this year will once again be preparing all of us for our Funding Eq...uity campaign and to begin these community efforts we will be hosting two forums: a Parent & Caregiver Forum on November 9 and an Educators Forum on November 10, both at 7pm via Zoom. Please see the digital flyers attached and help us share these events with your staff and your families through your regular communications, social media outlets and any other means of spreading the word you have available. We will have Missouri State Board Members sharing a special message, medical doctors providing COVID-19 information and mitigation strategies, and a much-needed time to share perspectives, shoutouts to our educators, parents and staff...and more! The Raytown School District is partnering with several community organizations to sponsor a no-contact food and essentials distribution from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. Free FLU shots! Last Friday, attending students received information and a permission slip to obtain a free flu vaccination at school, provided by the Kansas City Health Department. Health experts warn that the addition of another respiratory illness on top of the COVID-19 pandemic could overburden the health care system, strain testing capacity, and increase the risk of catching both diseases at once. Help us preserve in-person attendance and the safety of our school communi...ty by getting your child vaccinated. Simply complete and sign the permission slip. All students attending October 28th with signed permission forms will be vaccinated by the Health Department. Additional permission slips for students currently attending remotely are available in the foyer. The Health Department will also be available in the parking lot to vaccinate all family and community members free of charge from 3-6pm on October 28th. Parent-Teacher Conferences: Each fall, coinciding with the end of the first quarter, Genesis school conducts parent teacher conferences in order to provide parents useful information about student learning and achievement, set and share goals, and MOST importantly discuss actions that teachers, parents and students will take in order to meet goals. Due to the continued risk of community spread of COVID 19, our conferences will be virtual whenever possible. We have set aside the evening of October 28th, and 10am-4pm on October 29th to conduct virtual conferences. Our goal is for 100% of teachers to connect with families during conference time and before the end of October. Sign-up sheets have been sent home. If you have questions about how to participate, please contact your child’s teacher. Sankofa Circle: Sankofa Circle is a virtual school community program open to all parents and guardians of Genesis school students. Sankofa Circle allows parents to still connect with the school during the pandemic, meet other parents, learn more about the Genesis program and receive strategies to help students be successful. Circles will be held virtually, Thursday Evenings at 6pm beginning October 29th and continuing thru November 19th.
