Great resource from The New York Times! While this article only skims the surface on systemic changes that are needed, it provides helpful ideas and materials for Black pregnant folks to advocate for themselves and for providers to combat racial disparities in maternal mortality. https://www.nytimes.com/article/black-mothers-birth.html
Vision for Children at Risk is hosting Virtual Parent Cafe at 1:00 this afternoon! Join in for community support and to connect with other parents!
We're still holding space for the words of Gabriella Nelson, keynote speaker at our Standing Up for Black Mothers and Babies event. Gabriella reminds us all that you don't have to be an elected official or a licensed physician to honor the health and well-being of Black moms and babies.
NEW LINK: For anyone wanting to attend this morning's help session, we have a new Zoom link! https://us02web.zoom.us/j/7095395101 Please contact Laura Horwitz at [email protected] if you need help logging in.
We're so excited that Shavanna, one of FLOURISH St. Louis' Community Leaders Cabinet members, has created a new community-centric podcast! Be sure to follow Da Hood Talks Podcast Live for updates and to tune in for the first episode this Saturday at noon!
One of the key tenants of standing up for Black moms and babies must include acknowledging and uplifting their contributions, speaking their names, and honoring those that have paved the way for the work that we do in maternal and child health. There are three women whose names we know from written record that deserve to be yelled from the rooftops. Their names are Lucy, Betsey, and Anarcha. -Gabriella A. Nelson, Associate Director of Policy, Maternity Care Coalition and Keynote Speaker at our Standing Up for Black Mothers and Babies event. Learn more about Lucy, Betsey, and Anarcha's impact on modern gynecology: https://n.pr/3neAiqK
We're mourning the passing of Richelle Clark, a beloved colleague and long-term advocate for moms and babies. Most recently with Generate Health, she served as co-chair for our immunization initiative (2017-2018). Her death is a huge loss to the maternal and infant health community. Please join us in sending Ms. Clark's family and friends thoughts of peace and comfort as they grieve their loss. http://www.stlamerican.com//article_5071fe40-35b4-11eb-b97

Regardless of who wins this election or which ballot measures pass, Generate Health will remain committed to racial equity for Black pregnant and parenting families in St. Louis. We know that even during national uncertainty, there are actions we can take to ensure we’re showing up for our neighbors. Last week, we issued a community challenge to match FLOURISH St. Louis’s $50,000 contribution to STL Mutual Aid, which provides direct assistance to individuals and families affected by COVID-19. We are sharing $8,000 of funds raised during our annual event and ask our followers that are able, to help us continue to build this network of solidarity and community support. https://stlmutualaid.org/stlma-financial-solidarity
