Gatson Farms 26.05.2021

Gave Abilene her birthday present a little late, but just in time to wean calves this morning! Loved having actual bars to stop calves in the alley with instead of whatever happened to be lying close by. Perfect present for the farm/cattle girl.

We beat the rain yesterday, weaned off and weighed the first batch of lambs. We also got the barn all rearranged and everyone in their new groups. Excited how a few of these are shaping up! Praying that we don't get washed away now.

If you are looking for some red genetics, go take a look at the Seedstock+ sale coming this next weekend 3/13. Strong set of bulls and females at this sale.

Videos are up for the bulls selling this Saturday, Feb 27. Lot 61: Gatson DirDr Giovanni 946G is one of our favorites of the bulls we are consigning. Or if your looking for a ton of calving ease take a peek at Lot 10: Gatson DirDr Geronimo 916G; top 1% in birth weight and calving ease EPDs! There are a lot of impressive bulls in this sale; no matter if you are looking for growth, calving ease, or a combination bull, you should take a peek at this sale and what it has to offer.

Some really nice bulls in this and the other 3 upcoming Seedstock Plus sales. Look for our Gatson Gelbvieh entries!

Had 28 calves in the last 2 weeks! Between calving and starting harvest we are keeping very busy.

Gatson Gelbvieh started calving last week with our 2yr old heifers! (Which was our sign that we needed to do yearling vaccinations and data collection today on the 1yr olds.) Also, these heifers are super calm! I didn't use the zoom on the camera, I just walked right up to/amongst them. I love how calm these girls are, haven't been close to people all summer and are still chill. Happy fall calving!

Today we should have been at the state fair riding rides with O&A... but instead we unloaded hay, trimmed feet & footbathed ewes, sold wool, and cleaned out the barns. The barn doesn't get nearly as deep when you haven't been bedding show sheep! Glad Kasey doesn't start back to school till next week so she was around to help. We all went to the Jr Sheep show on Saturday at State Fair but it's just not the same!

Our evening activity was cleaning out the feed shed... it was messier than expected so supper was a little late.

We were super busy today! All the ewes and rams had their feet trimmed and footbathed, wormed, pre-bredding shots given, and sorted/turned out into breeding groups. The twins got lots of barn time and were glad we had moved the heifers home for calving so they could watch them and help water them. We all went to Doe's for lunch and picked sweet corn. And to top it all off the new fence got finished!

Adam judged the NE district FFA Expo sheep show yesterday and the rest of us went to be his cheering section. It's very different now that we don't have a Jr taking sheep, but we had fun getting to be with our sheep family. BIG thank you to the FFA advisors for putting on this show!

Celebrating our #1 guys birthday by working lambs this morning. He's working on ratios and adjusted weights from the data we got this morning taking heights and weights. We also wormed and gave shots to all the lambs. Still extremely sad we won't be able to exhibit at the state fair, but really happy to be able to celebrate another trip around the sun for the patriarch! Happy birthday Adam!!!

Worked with the show ewe lambs for the first time this morning, hoping to work some of the crazy out of them in the next 29 days before Missouri State Fair!

Outside: got all the ewes through the footbath, wormed, and on to new pasture. Inside: Otto and Adalind really enjoyed the Hampshire Heartbeat that came today!

Gatson Farms 03.08.2020

We're very happy that Adalind and Otto got to spend Independence Day with the Gatson side of our family and end the weekend showing sheep at Freedom Fest with the Dunn side! The cherry on top is that they get to stay the rest the week and help with chores as well as have some good old country fun. (We promise the work is still mostly getting done while they're here)

Gatson Farms 25.07.2020

Been a productive week. Hay baled, beans planted, barley harvested/baled/stored, steers sold, and daily chores to keep up with have kept us busy.

Gatson Farms 09.07.2020

Busy as bees today! Soybean plot is going in since it's finally dry. Kasey and Abilene also got the last group of lambs weaned this morning and the ewes through the footbath while Julie continues to haul corn.
