Today we remember Ignatius, Bishop of Antioch, martyr, who died around 115 Ignatius called deacons his fellow servants, causing some commentators to consider th...e author of some of the letters of Ignatius to be a deacon. He asked the Ephesians to let him keep one of their deacons with him and used Burrhus, the deacon, as an aid, companion, and conveyer of messages. These letters revealed that deacons may have had a role in the liturgy or in charity because they do not serve mere food and drink, but minister to God’s church. We're thrilled that "Living Lutheran" picked up the story of Gathering Table, giving it national recognition! Special thanks to Diane Stafford, from First Lutheran, Mission Hills, who authored the story. https://cdn.coverstand.com//7ff799544cd98f01107eaf9cf2ac29 The story is found at pages 28 and 29, if this link doesn't take you directly to the those pages.

FACES AROUND GATHERING TABLE Meet Bruce Huffman: Bruce has been a regular at Gathering Table. He now volunteers to mow the grass, regularly helps out during meals, and other jobs. Recently Bruce said, "I quit church after high school and now in my middle age I found a perfect church home. This gives me purpose to have responsibilities and help out. Plus, I have new friends and help out when things get a little crazy. I never thought of my pastor as a friend, but she is, and my faith continues to grow because I understand what she preaches." Thanks, Bruce for your participation and for being a good friend!
