For the fourth consecutive year, each of Fort Zumwalt School District’s four comprehensive high schools ranks among America’s Best High Schools according to US News & World Report. Of the nearly 18,000 schools ranked, only the top 40 percent earned eligibility to display a U.S. News Best High Schools 2020 badge. This year, the national rankings for the four Fort Zumwalt high schools put them in the top 13 percent of high schools in the country. The Best High Schools list is also broken out by state and region. Learn more: https://www.fz.k12.mo.us//f_z_high_schools_among_america_s

Come on up and check out this edition of Monday Museum, featuring works from elementary students from across the district, all of whom have been studying virtually this school year. And West Middle's seventh graders share works in several different media as the North High Treble Chamber Choir brings home this bit of art to start the week.

S/O to FZW librarians Shannon Grieshaber and Nina O'Daniels who were recently honored by the Greater St. Louis School Librarians Organization, which named the West High library the 2019-2020 Secondary School Library Program of the Year. Shannon and Nina were recognized for engaging students in innovative library programming, wrote Julie Jamieson, Vice President of the Greater St. Louis School Librarians Organization. The West High Library is a busy, bustling, and welcoming hub of the school, filled with positive energy and learning. It is definitely a space where the love of reading is nurtured. Welcome to 2021! High schools have a full, 7-period day. Elementary and middle schools are on a B Day schedule. Be sure you run down your checklist before returning to school today: At-home wellness check? Mask and water bottle? Solid hand hygiene and social distancing habits? A little art to start your week? We've got that covered, thanks to artists at East High and Rock Creek Elementary, as well as the West High Ladies Jazz Ensemble, who have us off to a great start today. Let's finish first semester strong! #FORTifyZUMWALT

Welcome to Finance Friday, some insight on school finance. Did you know that the district relies on state allocations for about 30 percent of its budget? In June, at the end of the 2019-2020 fiscal year, the state withheld $2.8 million from Fort Zumwalt in order to help balance the state’s budget for that fiscal year. In July, at the beginning of the 2020-2021 fiscal year, the state withheld $4 million from Fort Zumwalt in anticipation of shortfalls in the state budg...et for the current fiscal year. That’s a total withholding of $6.8 million due to COVID-19. While some CARES Act money has come through the state back to the district, the net shortfall remains $4.1 million and does not include increased expenditures directly related to slowing the spread of the virus. During the Great Recession (2009 - 2012) the district was able to maintain reserves through a combination of budget cuts and $18.5 million in federal stimulus money. Similar federal stimulus would help the state meet its obligations to Fort Zumwalt and school districts across the state. See more
