Remember when you were a kid and how excited you were to find snow on the ground when you awoke in the morning?! It was beautiful at Topaz Mill this morning. First snow of the season and we were pretty excited. It is a winter wonderland when we get snow at Topaz.
What a beautiful scene today as the front edge of the cold front moved through at Topaz Mill. It moved in quickly and was quite a sight for picture takers. Lovely, lovely, lovely. But, boy, did it get cold!
When you visit Topaz Mill you will probably be welcomed first by Addie...the Topaz dog and Greeter. She is very friendly.... sometimes overly friendly. She loves tourist, children and other dogs. She made and new friend yesterday with a visiting dog, to whom she gave the Topaz Mill Tour and then they played games in the yard as the humans continued their Mill and Store tour. You might also see the Topaz cat, Ziba. It's doubtful that she would make an appearance. She isn't wild about tourist, but she does like cars, especially cars with windows rolled down. So... before leaving the premises make sure you don't have a "stow away"!
Our good friend Kaitlyn McConnell creator of Ozarks Alive is now doing a monthly radio show on KSMU radio station and this month she did a show about Topaz Mill. You can listen to it at KSMU.org and click on Ozarks Alive time capsule.
Merry Christmas from Friends of Topaz Mill, Inc, The Christmas lights will be on every night starting Saturday, Dec. 5th, 5.p,m.- 8:00 pm. Come visit us!
I have to say that we have the nicest visitors who come to visit at Topaz Mill. Many that come have heard about us by "word of mouth". Thank you all for sharing with others about your visit to Topaz Mill and for all the nice comments that we receive. We are off the "beaten path" and privately owned but we love sharing the history of Topaz Mill and it's importance to the early settlers. Visitors are always welcome.
One of the things that makes Topaz Mill unique is that it has the original milling equipment still in place. It is like they closed the doors and retired the mill. The grist stone is in place and can be used for grinding corn. The roller mill equipment is in place but not operational at this point.
Today we had visitors to Topaz. We failed to get a head count but I think there were about 25 people from the community who came riding into Topaz. Some on their horses, some in trucks. We were expecting them and were looking forward to their visit. I failed to get a group picture. It would have been a challenge to herd them all into a group. They spent the afternoon on the store porch feasting on lunch, touring the mill and store. I think they all had a good time. The weather was delightful, the fall colors are starting to show off. Addie, the Topaz dog and welcoming committee of one, was entertaining and entertained.
