Congratulations to artist Debbie Kindschuh, our First Place winner in "Geometric by Design II"!! Her photograph "Harpa" was chosen by our Juror, Mark Schatz. Here is an excerpt from his Juror's Statement (full version will be on display with the exhibit and available on our website soon.) "Let me offer an insight into my selection process. My first consideration was the theme of the show, so I looked at the artists’ use of geometry in their work. ... My next focus was on design itself: How well and how creatively did each artist use the space they selected for their work? Was the negative space an integral part of the composition? Was the placement of elements thoughtfully and provocatively implemented? Were areas apparently overlooked or underdeveloped? Craftsmanship was also an important consideration. Were edges clean? Were there stray glue marks or distracting brush marks? Were measurements carefully taken? At this point, I tried to evaluate the sophistication and complexity of each piece. Did a photograph speak to the element of light as an expressive force? Did a painting or drawing work to develop subtlety and richness in value and color? Is a three-dimensional piece engaging and complex? Finally, there is the elusive quality of aesthetic merit. A strong work of art should command the viewer’s attention, draw them in, hold their focus and invite them back again and again. The best work in this show did that-at least for me."
