HSSU ALUM UPDATE Art McCoy, Ph.D., graduated from Harris-Stowe State University in 1996. He is an inspiring champion of children and nationally recognized educa...tor who currently serves as the Superintendent of Jennings School District. In December 2010, Dr. McCoy became the youngest and 1st African-American Superintendent/CEO of Ferguson-Florissant School District at age 33. In 2016, he became Superintendent in Jennings School District and still holds that position to this day. Under his leadership, the classes of 2017 and 2018 achieved 100% graduation and career and college placement. He has raised more than 10 million dollars to sustain and increase innovative initiatives for students. In March 2020, Dr. McCoy published an article highlighting his district’s 2019-2020 accomplishments. The accomplishments included, but were not limited to: Jennings School District is officially a 90-90-90 district with over 90% diversity, 90%+ students on free meals, and 90%+ performance on the Missouri Annual Performance Report (APR). This year, Jennings School District exceeded state standards and growth expectations in several areas. For the first time since 1993, Jennings School District has school bus and minivan transportation for students. Jennings School District is the first district in Missouri to operate, not one but, two food hubs containing daily groceries for families. In November, Dr. McCoy and Jennings School District received the 2019-20 Education Innovator of the Year from the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which is measured by the success of Missouri employers.
