Hello! Did you know that donating blood is like hitting your refresh button. It reduces the number of red cells in the blood which makes the bone marrow immediately produce more. As a result, the donor’s blood is refreshed every time they donate. So, come see us for a truly refreshing experience. For more information, call 573-596-5385.

General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital is sponsoring an Armed Services Blood Program blood drive from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Feb. 17 in the MEDDAC Classroom on the hospital's first floor. The drive is open to everyone 17 years old and older - military or civilian. Everyone who donates will receive a free ASBP t-shirt, some juice and cookies and a heart-felt thank you. The Armed Services Blood Program is the official blood collection and transfusion agency for the Department of... Defense, tasked with collecting the 400 units of blood the Military Healthcare System requires each day even as we battle the Coronavirus. Potential blood donors must weigh at least 116 pounds and be at least 17 years old and feeling well for the past three days. You must also be well hydrated and have eaten something before donating. Those wanting to donate should bring a list of foreign countries traveled to and a photo ID (military ID, driver's license, etc) with them to donate. They’ll need them to check in. The ASBP is taking steps to ensure the military’s blood supply is adequate and safe. Please know that: -- Blood has a short shelf life and must be continuously replenished. -- There have been no reported or suspected cases of transfusion-transmitted COVID-19. -- COVID-19 does not pose any known risk to blood donors during the donation process or from attending blood drives. -- Additional measures are in place for a safe environment for collection staff and donors. -- Healthy and eligible donors are highly encouraged to donate blood to ensure our military continues to have an adequate blood supply. When they've completed their fourth donation with the ASBP, donors receive a Certificate of Achievement from the hospital commander, worth five promotion points,. So come on out and help your fellow service members and get some goodies in the process. For more information about this drive, call Carl Norman at (573) 596-5385 or e-mail [email protected]

The Fort Leonard Wood Blood Donor Center is seeking COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma donors. Referred to as CCP, this plasma is the liquid part of blood collected from patients who have recovered from COVID-19 or have tested positive and have been 14 days without symptoms. CCP contains antibodies believed to fight the coronavirus and is transfused into patients who are still fighting the infection. The DoD is on a mission to collect more than 10,000 CCP units by Sept. 30, and we ...need evryone's help. Those eligible to donate CCP must be at least 17 years old, weight 110 pounds, and be in good health. There will be additional questions asked about medical and travel history as well. They must have fully recovered from COVID-19, be symptom-free for 14 days or more and have evidence of a COVID-19-positive documented laboratory test (either diagnostic or serological). We're asking evryone who meets these requirements and lives within the 60-mile radius of Fort Leonard Wood, and has a government-issued identificaton card (military member, military family member, retired service members and their spouses and government civilian employees who have a common access card) to call 573-596-5385 or e-mail [email protected] to schedule an appointment to donate.
