Hammertoe deformity is one of the most common foot deformities you could see in the foot. Hammertoes are toes that become "tented" and caused discomfort when wearing shoes. There are three most common hammertoe deformities: flexible, semi-rigid, and rigid. The toes deformed with continuing ambulation over time with incorrect biomechanics or muscle powers inbalance in the lower extremities. Non-surgical treatments are available for new onset of hammertoe deformity. Rememb...er to wear extra-depth shoes to accommodate the deformed toes. Depending on how the hammertoe began to form, custom orthotics can help prevent any further deformation. If you have hammertoe problems, contact us on how we can help relieve the discomfort at (816) 225-2557.

Do you often get confused with a podiatrist and a pedicurist? They do the same thing, right? The truth is NO. Pedicurist are techs who just take care of the outer appearance of the toe nails and make them beautiful and clean. A Podiatrist does more than the outer appearance of the nail. They diagnosed and treat the nail problems, along with many other foot and ankle issues. Your toe nails often give you a hint what is going wrong with your body. Example...unusual darkened color band from nail to skin surrounding nail often hints that you might have cancer. Do not ignore that. Increase your chance of survival by early diagnosis and treatment! Call us if you feel you might have it.

Infected toe nails are commonly known as paronychia (infected ingrown toe nail). For a healthy person with this condition, you can start some easy self treatment by following these easy steps...1) stop picking on it! 2) start soaking the infected toe in warm water with epson salt and a tablespoon of vinegar for several minutes. 3) place cotton string between nail and skin border. This cotton string will help lift the nail up and prevent it from hitting against the skin. It is very important to control the pain and infection rate. Call us at 816-434-5906 if you have questions or concerns.

Does your heel hurts when you first step down from bed or chair after a long rest and gets you limping? You could be experiencing plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of a plantar fascia that connects the tendons to the heel bone. It usually supports the foot alignment, but when abnormal traction occurs, the attachment site becomes inflamed and swollen. Here are the first few steps that you can do before going to us for further treatment: ice the area b...y rolling a totally frozen plastic bottle under your affected foot for the next 15-20 minutes. (If you have vascular problem or have other concerns, call us first before doing this). Next is stop wearing flip flops and start wearing proper arch support inserts. Not the flimsy one that you can flap against the wind. The final step is stretching. Stretch your Achilles' tendon! The huge tendon has an indirect pull against the plantar fascia at the bottom of your foot. When stretching, if you feel you are hurting yourself, the you are stretching too strong! Heel pain is not good but don't be give up. Call us to make an appointment to talk in person with our doctor. We have two locations for easy access. (816) 434-5906 or (816) 523-6050. See more

Do you have painful corns and calluses? Before going under the knife, try wearing wider shoes with extra depth shoe box. Also, try prescribed orthotics to help modify pressure areas. OTC orthotics are great, but not a prescribed orthotics. What is it? Orthotics are like prescribed lens for eyewear, except it's for the foot. Everyone has a different foot type (high arch, flat foot) and need a proper measurement. With the correct orthotics, you can prevent foot strain and fatigue. Call us at 816-434-5906 about prescribed orthotics!
