As a staff member was driving seven dogs today on 71 Highway to our Zona Rosa Adoption Center to hopefully get adopted by new families, another vehicle ran a re...d light at an intersection, t-boned the side of our large transport van, and fled the scene. Our team members rushed into action to move the dogs to another vehicle, and we're grateful to the KCMO Police Department for keeping everyone safe on the highway. We're so thankful that our team member who was driving the van and all of the dogs are ok, though obviously shaken up. Our transport vehicle had to be towed away and is not driveable. We use this vehicle every day to move animals all around the Kansas City metro area to be adopted and to pick up supplies for our shelter. It's imperative to the lifesaving work, and now, are without it for the unforseeable future. Donations to this post or to http://donate.kcpetproject.org are greatly appreciated to help us continue our work as we may have to use unplanned resources for transportation needs. Fort Osage is pleased to be able to offer our community free food boxes on Saturday, October 24th from 8:00-11:00 a.m. at Osage Trail Middle School. Anyone is welcome to come and pick up a 22 pound box that will contain assorted fruits, vegetables, dairy and protein items along with a gallon of milk. This event will be a contactless pick up. We ask that cars be ready to open their trunk or backseat and a volunteer will place the items in your vehicle for you. Please plan to follow the signs and traffic cones in place.
